Hi all
I am having problems connecting wirelessly to my new Dell PC using the Livebox. I can connect using the cable, but for my house setup, the wireless option is best. I have had to move the Livebox upstairs to be next to the PC, leaving my Wii and 360 downstairs with no connection anymore. even the Wii appears to have lost its previously good connection.
Anyway, my question is this; Do I need to keep using the Livebox to give me my connection to Orange broadband, or can I bite the bullet and dump the lousy Livebox and buy a new router? Will a new wireless router connect ok? Do they all have wireless and wired options? can anyone recommend a good one?
I am sick of trying to connect to the lousy box, and just want my new machine online, and all of my other gadgets working as they were!
Providing you get an ADSL router then you can pick any you like. Most come with wired and wireless connections so just look around and choose one you think fits your needs.
If it's just a wireless problem then you could try changing the livebox channel, that may help with the problem.

Well, its a Vista PC, and I keep hearing all sorts of comments about the wireless option not working with Vista. I dont particulary want to shell out more money if I can help it, but the Livebox just seems so unreliable. I tried following the instructions on the Orange site about setting up WAP security, but it wont connect even then. I have sort of reached the end of my patience really. There is an unsecured network near my house, a LINKSYS router, and I cheekily tried to connect just to see what would happen. It connected straight away. When I turn off the security on my Livebox, I still cant connect.

You can install your new router before you switch then when your line goes down on migration day just log into your router and put in your new username and password and you should be ok.
In my opinion Netgear routers are straightforward and a doddle to configure to how you like it .
