This post is to vent my extreme anger caused by my terrible connection provided by Orange - before I have a hernia.
Ever since Orange took over I have experienced nothing but problems; the most frequent and frustrating of which being my (supposed) 2mb connection cutting out constantly. Recently this problem has worsened, with the connection cutting out literally every 5 minutes for the past 2 or 3 weeks, with a time period of several minutes before it reconnects, resulting in my connection being inactive the majority of the time (It cut out 3 times while typing this post).
Being a gamer I primarily use the internet for multiplayer PC games, and it seems whenever I join a server, my ping is always over 100 and I can bet on my life that I won't stay connected for more than 5 minutes - 10 minutes if I'm lucky... The quality of service I am recieving is absolutely appalling and has cost me a huge amount of time trying to work out what's wrong, and by process of elimination going through the ports required, my firewall settings on both my computer and router and all the router settings that it can't be anything else apart from 1) The ISP or 2) The phone line itself, the latter being extremely unlikely.
Broadband access has been available for nearly 4 years now in my area, so I can't see there being any problems there - and I only live 3 miles from the exchange.
I am confused as to whether my suspicions are correct and Orange are simply giving me a disgraceful service, or if it is another factor that I am unaware of (perhaps reaching my monthly limit, but wouldn't they contact me about that if that was the case?)... And if it is indeed Orange's fault then to which ISP I should turn to?
Please offer any help or advice you can give me on the subject, ta.
I know where you're coming from with games - the main reason I have broadband is for that.
Any disconnections, no matter how short, or high pings ruin the game.
The problem is Orange.
I too had a nightmare time with them, started last year and then was disconnected for 2 weeks.
As soon as I moved, to Idnet, my problems disappeared instantly.
never had a disconnection since last September when I started with Idnet.
Get your MAC code and leave ASAP, you won' regret it.
