Asked for a MAC code Sunday tea-time. Got one by email, an hour ago. One full working day. Is this a record? Are they finally giving up the ghost, and no longer trying to keep people tied to a useless service? Either way, I'm off to find out if all the others are just as bad! Sky, anyone?

Just in the process of switching to Sky. Got my MAC code in about two days so not quite as fast but better than I expected.
In fact, a weird thing happened after I got my MAC code. First, my e-mail address started working. Like many, I've been unable to send with my Freeserve address (yes, I was a satisfied customer since those days, Orange) for many weeks so it was quite a shock when suddenly I could.
Then my download speed went through the roof. Previously I never, and I mean never, got above about 260kbs and I found myself downloading at the unheard of rate of 600kbs!
And the speed stayed high (though not quite THAT high) past 1pm. 1pm being the point at which I could previously expect my download speeds to drop to the equivalent of dial-up - I problem I have had virtually since Orange took over.
I actually questioned if I had made a msitake. If Orange weren't incompetent and had just needed a little patience and understanding on my part in order to put everything right.
Alas, it was not to be. My e-mail worked for exactly one day. My top download speeds not only went back to their previous level but sunk even lower so that I now barely get above 100kbs no matter what the time of day. And yes, afternoon and evening downloading must be done at dial-up speeds again.
Oh, and my broadband has been down twice today, each time for about an hour.
Two more days before my Sky broadband is active. Just wanted to register and post this little tale because this site was very useful to me, if only in convincing me that my woes were Orange's fault and not mine.
