Still not with my new server as Orange supplied an invalid MAC code at the outset.
Got the right one eventually, and I go with new ISP tomorrow. One Orange rep told me my account was closed with them when I got my MAC. A couple of days later another Orange rep called me to enquire as to why they were unable able to collect the DD from my bank.
It may have been because I cancelled it - those incompetents weren't getting another penny out of me. I was informed that the matter would be passed on to their collections department because I refused to pay another month by debit card over the phone.
They can sing for this. They ain't getting a brass tack from me, not after the hassle they put me through for months. In fact I should be charging them for all the months I was paying but not having any Internet service.
When I cancelled my Orange accounts, no payments were ever mentioned. Orange DD is due on 15th and second on 24th - needless to say I have already stopped my DD since Orange (as I understand) takes payments in advance.I half expect some silly arse to call me with a "friendly reminder"
While Susan Kelly (“On no account”, Money Letters, June 2) is correct that direct debits can be cancelled unlilaterally by the payer, perhaps she does not realise that they can sometimes be electronically reinstated unilaterally by the payee, as happened when I had been trying for some time to sever all links with a previous internet service provider.
My bank subsequently confirmed that such unlilateral reinstatement of direct debits is not uncommon, particularly among telephone and internet service providers.
im sure most of you know my story so wont bore you with the word Orange too many times.
almost 3 months ago i was forced to cancelas they refused me a MAC twice and left me no choice if i wanted internet access.
I wrote to them saying i was not going to pay any "outstanding" costs as they could not provide a service, eventually they offered me a 50% reduction "under the circumstances" !!
Last week i then got a letter (over 2 months later) demanding the FULL amount. So ive again written to them saying i am not prepared to pay and they should in fact read previous correspondence before making such demands. I have also requested a CISAS reference so this can go to arbitration. Lets now see what happens....
Latest update on my own situation, and perhaps a bit of a warning to others who are requesting their MAC from Orange.
That's twice now they've given me the wrong MAC, and I'm still not online with my new server, although I've been assured that I will now definetely go online tomorrow - no thanks to Orange.
The rep from my new company pointed out that the MACOrange had given me just wasn't compatible, that the last character was a number and it's almost always a letter (this was the second time around after Orange had given me a new MAC after accepting that the first one was wrong). I'm now convinced that they do this deliberately.
Anyway I went back to Orange for the second time and informed them about this confusion with the last character in the latest MAC they had supplied, but they insisted that this latest MAC was correct.
My new ISP were equally insistent that it was wrong, and what they then did for me was replace the last number of the MAC with different letters until they got the right one 'i' and then the MAC was accepted.
Orange doesn't just mess you about when you're a customer with them, they continue to mess you about even when you've left them.
I will never again purchase any of Orange's products or services.

It's good to know that there are others who are also determined to overcome the problems and obstacles that Orange create for us.
They think themselves so clever.......which is typical of a French company.

Hi Pasch this is a regular occurence with Orange i had similar like many others and that was august 2006 for me and yet its now june 2007 and they are still at it its unbelievable and what with their crap service it really isn't doing what reputation they have left any favours will they ever learn? i doubt it, glad you got it sorted eventually.
Ive heard Orange is going to be doing a mass LLU migration very soon and watch the complaints get to an all time high very soon looks like you managed to get your problem sorted just in time.

Hi Steve,
It was this board that finally convinced me to make the move. I just googled 'Orange problems', and found my way here.
I had Orange on the phone again tonight looking for the May payment, claiming that my account was in arrears for that month. Again, this was another lie. They'd already taken the DD for May out of my account on the 2nd of the month, and I cancelled soon after that.
I asked the rep on the phone where I send the bill for the past six months of paying for a service that I was hardly ever getting. I told her that if Orange were looking for 22 quid off me, I'd be looking for 132 quid off them, and I demanded to be put through to customer services so that we could sort this out. They'd already offered me so many months free broadband to make up for this if I stayed with them, but there was never a chance of that happening. I'm not insane.
She said she would put me though to customer services, and seconds later the line went dead. I wasn't surprised - a dead line is what passes for customer service at Orange.
It seems that uSwitch are prepared to sing the praises of unreliable ISPs just because they adopt a government service approach to pricing.
From an article on rural broadband in The Times
Quote:
Two of the big providers, Orange and Pipex, have not introduced two-tier pricing. Like BT, these firms charge the same rate to all customers. For this, uSwitch, the comparison website, has branded them “rural heroes”.
Before people rush to subscribe to the "heroes" they would be advised to look at the satisfaction league table & note the low position of the "heroes".
Orange tried to take money from my account via direct debit. It was cancelled by my bank. They did this eventhough they already sent me a return paid post packet for their equipment, confirming my account is closed.
Make sure you close the DD with them if u finally migrate.
