Having problems with Orange Broadband and torrents. about two and a half weeks ago I started downloading only to be cut off, after a week and half of downtime I was finally reconnected.. and last night I resumed downloading and the livebox is flashing and no internet again!
It must be torrents as its very strange that it has happened both times. Anyone else had this problem?
Hopefully an e-mail to their Customer Relations Specialists will put this right (as they fixed the prob last time)
I cannot get an internet connection at all after downloading the torrents. It was a pretty big torrent however it only got to about 20% before the whole internet pretty much stopped working.
I have e-mailed Orange a couple of days ago as they sorted the problem last time via e-mail, no reply yet though!
Haha! there was something on here about e-mailing some guy called Eric Abensur, I did so and got a lengthy reply to my work e-mail about what was wrong with my connection, and by the time I got home my net was back up!
They also supposidly offered me £19.99 refund and one months free service (I just hope I get online in time to milk that! )
When i use torrents i cant really use it for a few mins because of the amount fo connections trying to connect at me at once, after a few mins its usually fine though
I don't think this is a torrent problem. Even if your torrent software is not setup correctly you would not be cutoff from the internet or server like that. I use torrents for downloading netlabel music (100% legal) and have intermittent disconnections but this happens when not using a torrent client also. So i think your problem is the same as mine where the connection just disappears for a few hours or a few days and then comes back on.
I've spoken to Orange about this but theres nothing they can do about it at the moment because they are having problems with their system and cannot run a line check .
I've got Three months contract left and cannot wait for the day i ring them up and ask for my MAC code .

Thanks for the replies guys, I thought as much.. as of today its officially still not working. I can't wait to get rid of them and move to BT!
-(you'll be locked into a 12 month contract with no protection under the consumer protection act for distance selling)!!!!
Hi,
I suddenly experencied problems with torrents in the last few weeks and immediatly left Orange on realisation that throttling/traffic-shaping was in place. I was finding that with a 1 Mb/s connection i could download at 100KB/s for about 2 hours and then the download rate would drop to a trickle rate 1-2kB/s (poorer than a 56k modem). This was regardless of encryption methods etc. (they must be deep-scanning the packets and specifically targetting torrents) on various torrent software. Furthermore they would track my dynamically assigned IP long after obtaining a new IP and hence i could not subvert the filtering.
If you look at their terms and conditions they reserve the right to reduce high volume traffic after about 2 hours of usage. Incidently, even though in the terms and conditions they won't confess to this via customer services. The new "fair use" terms and conditions was introduced somewhat stealthily, you probably received a letter informing of a change of contract without details. I distinctly recall requesting the terms and conditions, but never received them.
