Hi, this is my first visit to the forums and hopefully my last. I joined Orange in 2006 and was provided 1mb connection. I went for livebox connection for talk service, wireless and everything was good. My first problem with Orange was the talk service wasnt working so i rang tech support for the first time After many long painful conversations wiv them they found out that the original guy who i signed up with didnt activate my account Ok so now my account is activated talk service up and running everything is good December comes by and they change they packages Broadband max £27.99 to Broadband unlimited £19.99. So i decide why pay £27.99 when i can pay £19.99 (same package). This is my second problem not only do they renew your contract they upgrade your speed to 2mb Yey they have upgraded my speed i am thinking good right, only months of hell. My speed is non-existant between 5pm-12pm. They cant even provide 56k never mind 2mb connection. I am a online gamer and i get 80-100 pings and takes 30minutes to download a 20+ kb maps. So i phone up the monkeys again and guess what another line test and another 24hrs to wait then another 48hrs to wait then another 5 workings to wait (sound familiar). After all this they still haven't resolved the slow speed issue. Hehe i will end this topic somewhere. Right my third problem i lose my connection and again i phone up u know who, they come to the conclusion that my livebox is fooked so they send me a new one 10 working days wait My final nail in the coffin is i have lost my connection. So more line tests are done, monkeys going through they mr bean manual, equipment check. Is your cables connected properly, have u got ur cable attached to a filter, what are lights doing on the livebox (they grinning at me), is the filter attached to the master BT socket (no its attached to my arse). I went through that precudure about 6 times. So its time to leave and i speak to a supervisor (wow he speaks english) he says i am in a contract and i would have to pay £140 cancelation fees what do i have to pay this for (they christmas party) So how do i get out without having to pay this. They say i have to be disconnected for 30 days and 3 line tests have to be done. As soon as this is done i am outta there
Ring them and get your MAC code so that you can move to a decent ISP - they CANNOT refuse this even if you are under contract.
Once you have obtained this pass it onto your new ISP - I recommend Idnet, from my own experience. There are also Be and BT who are recommended by others.
As for the outstanding amount to Orange - they have broken the contract so it is void.
thx for all your advice, thinkbroadband and uk isp ratings was a big help. I noticed on the ratings that all the popular isps are the worst ones and best ones are totally unknown. Is this because the popular ones have the most customers and cannot cope with providing everyone quality service.

From what i read its the way they treat their customers their tech and customer support is useless when you get a problem they dont seem very quick in fixing it knowing you can't do anything about it or leave because being locked in their long contracts if they was any good they wouldn't need to have 12 and 18 month contracts.
The larger ISP's rely on aggressive advertising on tv etc with all sorts of claims smaller ISP's can't advertise on tv just the odd one in computer magazines its just a shame a majority isn't aware of them.
