For a few weeks I have been onto Orange to ask them when they will upgrade my line.
I live 300m from my exchange in Milton Keynes, BT since April has been saying I should be able to get 6.5 - 8 speed while Orange only give me 2.
After a few emails and calls to why there is such a difference (in other words why are your rivals offering 3x speed?) I eventually got the following message today:
-----
Dear Paul,
Thank you for your email.
We are still currently testing compatibility between our systems and the Max DSL systems used by BT. If all goes well we should be rolling it out to our Customers in late Summer.
If you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to get in contact with us again.
Kind Regards
Claire

Has anyone else been told this, or something different?
Getting fed up of all these "up to 8mb" connection adverts when up until now its only main cities that have been moved over!
adsl max is offered by BT through their wholesale system. Unfortunatly BT made a mess of the upgrade process so isps can't upgrade current customers right now (this will be fixed in a few weeks).
The other 8mb for big cities is LLU which is where the isp gets to take your data connection and put it into their own hardware at the exchange. They then don't have to pay BT wholesale or use BT hardware. This means its cheaper for the isp and they can offer 8mb now. Unfortunalty Wanadoo/Orange have a nasty habbit of disconnecting people with this new system.
If you use the search function in the forurms you will see this has been discussed before. Everyone has recieved similar responces that Wanadoo/Orange are testing ADSL max and plan to roll it out in the summer.
I see, I suppose the question is do I wait or jump to another ISP?
To be honest I have been with them since 1999 (dial-up) and Dec 2002 (broadband) and the service has been fine, perhaps just one day without broadband in the whole of the time.
Tempting to switch, but the stories you read from other people do put you off...

Wasn’t that only true for the bulk migration beta trial that got pulled by BT, the other system for regrades or new connections is still ok isn’t it?

I believe so but when the Orange Max package says you will be automatically put on the highest availabile speed, AKA mass ADSL Max mirgration for all on Max when Orange decide to do it then I don't blame them for waiting until it's fixed.
