I was asked by an Orange customer services person to give my full password, with my e-mail address, which I really didn't want to do but they insisted.
I've just tried to change my password and the web link doesn't work. Have tried repeatedly with no luck.
ActuallyJohn M, that URL didn't work for me.
I have an old Freeserve dial up account that I also use via another Broadband ISP connection. I think this is quite common - people establish an email address that friends and colleagues know and don't want to keep changing it.
Anyway, I log into the Freeserve using the web based mail. If I click Settings, I do not see a password change option. If I click help from within the webmail, I see the help page showing me:
"Changing your password
If you have an @fsmail email address you can change your password. You cannot change your password however if you have an @wanadoo.co.uk or @freeserve.co.uk email address. "
So are they saying that you have to keep the old password if you have a legacy account?
I really need to change it as I have started getting replies from ISPs telling me that my mail was rejected. There are hundreds of these a day. This could be that someone I know, who has my address in their address book, has a virus or it could be that my password has been discovered and someone is sending spam in my name.
works for me. I've just used it successfully to change the password on an old Freeserve account.

Yes, it's not explained as well as it could be. This means that you cannot change the password for @example.freeserve.co.uk accounts from within the Webmail interface.
Yes, as many times as I try, that URl fails but when I went into their help screen and followed it to the password change page, I got to the same page - ??? Anyway thanks, I have now changed my apssword. I've also dropped this email as my main paypal one after reading the posts here about how users could log on and look at login scripts that contained passwords.
