Hi I was wondering if you guys could give me a bit of advise.
I checked to see what broadband package I was on and its Broadband Max which is 27 a month, according to their call centre this hasnt been available since at least the end of 06.
Surely I have been overcharged and I should have been converted to the Broadband Unlimited package ?
I cant remember receiving any emails saying that the package I was on doesnt exist anymore. If I write to Orange am I likely to get a refund, or should I just forget about it and change the package for the future ?
As there are often extra terms or other differences between packages they can't normally automatically change you over. That and now it's a new 12 month contract if you change, I'm sure there would be an uproar if they just upgraded people automatically into a new contract term.
As far as I can see the only difference between the broadband max & Unlimited packages is the price and the fact one isnt available any more, so from my point of view they have just renamed the package and made it cheaper, but didnt automatically charge me less.
Nope, don't think your missing anything, cheeky buggers must still be overcharging thousands of people. It's a policy I think a lot of isp's have, keeps the money rolling in.
As has already been said, If you're currently happy with the speed and service you're getting you can change to the cheaper package in the member centre but this will tie you in to another 12 month contract. Otherwise I would say your best option is to ask for your MAC and take your money elsewhere.
I had this exact same problem. I was told, quite rudely, that there was no way in hell I was going to get refunded for the time they had overcharged me and that it was not their policy to notify customers of pricing changes via any other way than their website.
When I then said that if people didn't use their website as their homepage, they could not possibly know that the prices had changed.
They then went on to say that it's not their problem, that they wouldn't be refunding the difference (we're talking almost £100 here) and that I didn't have a leg to stand on.
I wouldn't mind if my connection was decent, paying for 8MB here and getting less than 1MB connection every single day for about a month.

Purely in respect of being overcharged you really don't have a leg to stand on. They're contracted to provide a service at a price. If you have not changed package, therefore contract, then the original one remains in place.
They have no legal duty to notify you, and most people decline the signup option for them to provide you information about products and services. (3rd party products and services are included as a serperate option)

Thats a different story, compensation for downtime or poor service does happen and if you've previously reported and gone through diagostics then you're likely to be able to get something back.
