I am SO relieved it is not just my problem, as Technical 'Services' (ha ha) try to tell me, even when I say I get the message 'Remote computer did not respond in a timely manner'! I am in Islington, for last week I can't get on AT ALL at weekends apart from early hours of the morning, and on weekdays, broadband impossible late afternoon (when kids get home from school!) until early hours next morning! I signed up for broadband originally with Freeserve, then inherited by Wanadoo and now Orange. What can I DO? I need access 24 hours a day because of my work, pay £29 quid a month to Orange for Broadband, and I suppose it is because of their special offer of mobile phone plus Broadband that has done for their computers, flooding them. I think it is totally unfair to old customers like me that we are hung out to dry. Does anyone have any ideas what we can do? I've written and emailed Orange of course but not holding my breath - I don't think they give a damn about us.
Well - I've decided I've actually had enough - took some hardwork and a call to CEO of Orange UK to get BroadBand in the first place last year.. so this is the final straw. I've requested my MAC code and I'm off - Now do I go to BeThere or Sky !? hummm

We couldn't connect from Saturday afternoon onwards with the message PPP server down. I've just got home to find we've got the connection back, but from what I've read on here, I'm just wondering how long it's going to last this evening?! The Indian technical help were no help whatsoever saying that it was a fault covering '0207 and 0208' numbers that their engineers were working on. When I pointed out that it would mean most of London couldn't connect, they then started saying it was Greenwich and Angel that were affected (we're on the south bank near Waterloo) yesterday. They didn't seem to understand that we're not near those parts of London. I was also told several times it would be fixed shortly (which turned out to be untrue). Why does it not say on the Orange website (so I could at least have checked at work) where they are experiencing problems so you wouldn't have to ring expensive telephone numbers?
I can recommend Be ive had no problems whatsoever with them.
Just rub it in why dont you
We were just abouyt to switch to Be*, And about a week before they were going to enable our exchange they decided not to
My connection normally times out at 7pm on the dot. Its working now and its currently 7:15. Hopefully it has cleared up. If not I will have to convince my parents to change ISP. Yep, downtime and slow speeds haven't got them to change yet. Yet they complain about it all the time.

lol cockneycomic
Sorry to hear that Dazmo but there is plenty of good ISP's to choose from with 1 month contracts and offering just a 1 month contract you know they will be good
I can understand being apprehensive about switching ISP's i was the same but believe me once you have the MAC code its quiet straightforward the only problem i had was getting the MAC off Orange they tried every trick in the book to avoid giving it to me and with the ISPA i managed to get it if you do persuade your parents to change if you avoid the big ISP's ie: Tiscali, Pipex Talk Talk and the like you will be ok and of course the word "free".

i'm with Fast now. really enjoying the sheer SPEED of the connection. the difference to Orange is amazing. and no Indian call cenre muppets to deal with either - you have tech support right here in England. and they know their stuff. very happy so far.
get that MAC code folks.
you wont regret it. and yeah - *avoid* any "free" broadband ISPs ( Talk Talk, orange, Virgin etc).. go for an ISP that has being an ISP as its core business. you might pay a bit extra but its worth it.
