Hi atc
You will have no problem with the 585 you just use the be cd to configure it for you and install their templates takes about 2 minutes its a bridged connection i was using a 585 and it was fine as its limited config in the web interface, saying that their is a lot of support in the forum of the telnet commands for it.
I found i got faster speed with the BeBox (mine was a 780) than the 585 which is virtually the same but has voice ports.
Im now using a Netgear DG834PN which is a doddle to configure.
Settings are with any other router
ADSL Settings
Multiplexing Method: LLC Based
VPI:0
VCI: 101
Basic Settings
Login: NO
Password: NO
IP: Dynamic
DNS: Dynamic
Use this MAC Address: BeBox MAC address
Hope this helped.

Hey windmillhills .. i live in the Gateshead area too (Windmill way as it happens) and am with Orange unfortunately! The speeds i have been getting are SHOCKING! I feel like i'm back in 1997 on a 56k dial up.
I have been an Orange customer for 7 years with mobiles so thought i may as well get the broadband for a fiver. Had 3 weeks of ppp server down .. then slow connections .. its a disgrace!
Seriously considering the Be Broadband service too .. even if it does cost me an extra £19 a month im sure it'll be worth it. Ive had nothign but constant s**t with Orange!
Been terrible since Wednesday but seems to have improved slightly today. Trying to explain to the Indian call centre today that my e-mail hadn't been dealt with after 2 weeks .. ''but sir your line cannot support up to 8 meg''
For crying out loud!! I understand that but at least if i got a consistant 2 meg (or thereabouts) speed i wouldn't be overly bothered! The fact it scrapes along at 0.3 of a meg for the majority of the day is shocking!
Anyhow hope your situation has improved although i very much doubt it with Orange beign Orange!
Hmmm, things are definately getting better with Orange now. 6.3 Mbps, at noon on a weekday.
I'm not gettign anywhere near that. I must say since May had no down time or anythign however i'm baffled how you are getting those high speeds and we live in the same area?
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d

It's still good as you can see. I changed no settings. I'm not sure of the date when it improved - it was just when I decided to do a speedtest.net run that I noticed the speed increase.
