Hi guys, need some advice. Where do I start? Ok, here goes........
My aunt has her phone landline with Pipex Homecall, and her broadband account with BT. She's heard about the Orange Broadband unlimited with free talk service, plus she was getting nuisance phone calls to her landline phone. So 2 weeks ago she cancelled her Pipex Homecall account and had her number transferred over to BT. Phoned BT up to cancel the broadband and was told to ring back after 10th May. Phoned BT yesterday and after 2 hours holding on the phone was given a MAC code. Was then transferred to another BT department where they changed her phone number because of the unwanted calls. What I want to know is, if she signs up with Orange using the new phone number, will she still need to use the MAC code? Is a MAC code associated with a phone number or it is the address?
I'm not sure how best to approach this to sign her up with Orange. I suppose she could use my PC to setup an account, or the other option would be for her to signup using a dial up account in her house and then upgrading to broadband immediately. But can the modem she used for her BT broadband be used as dial up? I don't know and I'm not sure. I guess the first option would be the easiest, and then just wait for the Livebox to arrive, before continuing with the remainder of the setup. She will mainly be using the Livebox for making overseas phonecalls.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
She could signup through your connection or instead just call them. Either way is the simplest although online gives her more control over the username, email address etc so she can make sure it's how she wants. Unless she's really eager to use the internet setting up a dialup may just get in the way of things in the long run.
Surprised there's not been any comments trying to warn you off yet.
Thanks Elhana. I think the easiest option would be to sign her up using my connection. I didn't think the BT broadband modem would work and I really didn't fancy doing numerous installs and uninstalls with dial up modems.
She's calling over tomorrow, and I'll see how we get on with signing her up. Wouldn't dream of calling customer services.
I have actually told her, but she insists on signing up. She mainly wants it for the free phone calls, as she phones abroad pretty much on a daily basis. The internet itself is not a priority to her

Personally I cannot understand anyone on this forum recomending Orange as an ISP for any reason, free phone calls or not.
Oh well, at least you can't say you were not warned!!!!!
so next week the questions will be why do i get disconnected every 5 minutes .why does the livebox not work.why has it cost me £50 to phone Orange because i am not getting free phone calls. I'm sorry but wow she really should read this forum first.Oh wait lol the questions will come in a few weeks starting i have had no internet connection for a month and now i have a dial up speed.
Thanks for all your concerns guys. I tried to sign her up online yesterday, but it wouldn't accept her phone number saying that it was too far away from the exchange. Orange "recommended" that she should sign up for Orange Pay As You Go or Orange Anytime. Don't think so. My cousin is back now, so I'll let him sort it out.
