Had a similar problem when installing my Livebox. Laptop connection worked ok but PC refused to communicate using ethernet cable.
In my case I had forgotten that I had overclocked my system. When I realised and reset the CPU speed in the BIOS to the correct level all ok. Seems that network cards in particular can be rather fussy. Therefore if your problem not already solved it may be worthwhile checking BIOS settings.
My answers are based on the assumption that you may not be too experienced with computer hardware. If this is not the case please accept my apologies - but better I believe to err on the side of caution.
The LAN Connection 2, SIS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet adaptor is your network card not a firewire connection
As mentioned in an earlier post the problem may be related to ethernet port or possibly drivers. You do not mention your PC type or if purchased from new or s/h. If new it is unlikely that it is overclocked or that the BIOS settings are incorrect. If s/h then maybe someone has changed settings at some time which may be causing problems with network communications with the livebox.
First off I would advice caution when looking at the BIOS pages. Whilst it is unlikely that you will cause damage to your system you could inadvertently make a change to settings that prevent Windows loading.
Before looking at the BIOS you can check if your PC is overclocked by looking at the monitor when your system is first booting up. You should get a blank screen showing the operating system loading - during the load the screen will display processor type and speed e.g. Pentium III 933MHz (or similar). If you know that your computer has a 1Ghz processor and the start up screen shows the result to be much higher this would point to the possibility of the system being overclocked. If this is the case then BIOS settings should be investigated and speed settings adjusted to get the FSB and CPU running at the correct speed.
Instructions for BIOS speed settings can be found in the motherboard manual assuming this supplied with your system.
Without knowing more about your particular system configuration it is difficult to give specific suggestions.
Local Area Connection 2, SiS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet adaptor.
Thats what you want. It mentions ethernet which is the wired type connection used.
To be honest taffy you may want to get someone to take a look at the pc if you get stuck or are unsure as we're starting to exhaust most of the basic and easy options.
