Easy tiger, You are correct by saying Orange (as a company) are w@nkers- but remember its not everyone that works for Orange has that greedy-f***-the-customer attitude.
Unfortunately, when the likes of Customer Services feed you nonsense, lies and bounce you about like a ball it's because they are told to (ala script) and nothing more. Even if they wanted to give you the real reasons/solutions for your pathetic service they can't because clearly initiative and honesty isn't something they endorse in their Company.

Having experienced Orange support in the passed i do agree on some points but Elhana helps as much as possible in her own time and its not really fair on her but i do understand your frustration.

Well I can't say much relevant when there's very little to go on.
What do your line stats show as they dictate what the maximum speed you could get is and what your current speed is set to.
When there's been a problem like this it could be very likely that the speed has been reduced as a fix for the problem, if you're not sure you'll have to talk to Orange to see if thats the case or not.

These are taken directly from my router :-
System Uptime 64 hour(s) 42 minute(s)
DSL Status Connected
DSL Speed 288 Kbps Upstream, 1152 Kbps Downstream
LAN IP Address 192.168.1.1
Ethernet Connected
DHCP Server Running
Software Version V1.00B02T02.UK.20050815
If i never have to speak to Orange again it will be TOO SOON!
my speed before i was cut off was 288Up and 2278 down
this service is disgusting

ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 30.2
Attenuation (dB) : 22.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 6944
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Rate (kbps) Downstream 608 Upstream 288
oh wow that is disgusting! have you complained?
we are in 2007 the information age but yet Orange seem to think we are back to 2001 broadband speed when people were happy with anything above 56k - orange have no idea how to be a successful ISP they really dont

Nash we specifically need the downstream attenuation and noise margin to be able to estimate the speed the line can support.
it's irrelivent - before i was nocked offline i was on 2.5mbs download......after the upgrade/downgrade/whatever the hell Orange did my speed is now 1.1mbs
either the upgrade was not an upgrade... or they've purposely downgraded my speed for reasons unknown to myself

As I mentioned before it could have been done due to the problems experienced during the mirgration or it could be that the characteristics of the line have been altered since, usually unlikely but possible.
The main reason to know the stats is to see how much headroom there is. The higher the speed the line could potentially support then the more chance you'll be able to get it raised back. Lower it is then it could be that you were given a lower speed cap in order to preserve stability as it can't do quite like ADSL Max and deal with stuff like that automatically.
