I took out Orange 8meg a couple of weeks ago, unfortunetly before i found this site! i switched from AOL where i was getting a reliable 4 to 6meg connection but since switching i have been getting 1.5meg with Orange i am luckly still in the 30days to cancel period so i phoned Orange and they told me that i have been capped at 2 meg and that the guy i spoke to would upgrade the line but that came back with some sort of error and it would have to go to head office and i have to ring back in 3 days, what id like to know is it worth sticking with Orange or should i change now before its to late, and is there any problems that they try to stop people canceling within the 30 days any help much appreciated

get out while you can. i'm an old time Freeserve user - since the dial up days. stayed with them when wanadoo bought them out. no problems in service until Orange took over.
i'm a customer who was loyal for over 8 years and Orange lost me over p**s poor support. i've had NO connection since April 28th (ppp server login error...).. and since i'm a web designer by trade, having no broadband at home is just unacceptable.
got my MAC code off them and now i'm off to Fast.co.uk
My experience was similar to Mr Scruff (user since Freeserve - whole thing went to pot when Orange took over and moved me to their LLU service). If you don't cancel now while you can I suspect you're going to regret it. I recommend UKFSN as an alternative.
Don't know if there are any problems with the cancellation process, but if there are you should be able to reclaim the money from your bank. Orange continued to charge me after I changed ISP (my 12-month contract ended years ago, but it seems their billing section is as hopeless as everything else) but my bank happily refunded the money after a 10 minute phone call to them.
Ok thanks for that i will give em a call tonight and request a MAC code and hopefully get away before its to late if this is what its like i feel sorry for everyone stuck with these jokers

Generally if you sign up to the upto 8 meg service then there is no 30 day cancellation period. If you signed upto the starter package then it's capped at 2 meg and you get a speedtouch modem rather than a livebox, it does have the 30 day cancellation for that package.
As for the speed you need to check your line stats to find out what connection you're on, what it's running at and what it could go upto.
I'm still within 30 days of my service starting.. I tried to get my MAC code today and they told me if I used it I would be charged £220.. The remainder of my package for the year.. So according to Orange there is no 30 day get out.. Let me know how you get on.. I'm thinking about ditching and telling them to go whistle for the money..
I was told that I had no 30 day time but sadly im some 120 days into my contract. They told once i got the livebox I was entered into the contract and could not get out!!! I hate Orange!!! They are the worst company I have ever dealt with!!! Period!!!

which is exactly what i am doing as well. cancelled my DD.
they had the gall to say i owe them over 200 quid - for a non-existent service... they can go whistle for that as far as i'm concerned. got my MAC code off them after going on for nearly two weeks of outage.
Well i phoned Orange and there is no 30day cancelation on the unlimited service but when i took it out was told there was after complaining and eventually being passed through to a really helpful woman she downgraded me to the starter package and when i recieve the free router and send back my livebox back i will then be able to cancel free of charge
so all being well in 10 days im away from Orange
As for my line stats i did one from a really good link on here last week forgot where it is to do it again and it said my line was enabled for 2000k 4000k and 8000k i know it all depends on how far from the exchange and line quality but i was getting 6mb before and all the houses on my road all get around 6 to 8meg get around that through BT
Congratulations on finding this site.....and good luck in getting your MAC code. I asked for mine on wednesday but it seems it's touch and go whether I'll get it within the 5 days promised.
