Ive been with Orange now for 6 months, and in within this time ive had roughly 2 – 2.5 months of working Internet. With the latest issue leaving me without Internet for a month now and ive decided to call it a day by requesting my MAC code.
This caused some problems at first, but I managed to get through to the cancellation department and was told within 5 days I would get the MAC code. Unsurprisingly it never arrived and when I rang to check I was told the following:
“Your first MAC request failed due to a migration that has taken place. You will have to wait 10 working days for it to clear then request another” (meaning a further 5 working days)
An Ofcom advisor has now been informed about this and is looking into the matter. So I put it to the forum, is there anything I can do to escape the madness of Orange or am I doomed to be trapped in their ridiculous system forever?

Chris
contacting Ofcom should be enough - but chase them (Ofcom) for updates.
Think ill log a Complaint with Orange today as well so that its in there system and Ofcoms.
Ive been told that if I call BT and tell them ive cancelled my Orange account and a new ISP needs the line to be cleared, then BT can do this straight away for me? The techie at my work said this is what he did and it worked, but didnt go into details like if you need a MAC before hand.
Does anyone know if this is possible or if its wishful thinking?

I would not go down that route unless Orange fail to release your line when you've cancelled your account. Using a MAC, assuming you can get one, is better than cancellation.
If you cancel then you will probably have to pay your new ISP to create a new broadband connection. If you manage to get a valid MAC from Orange then most ISPs will let you transfer to them for free. Cancellation will lead to you losing your internet access for several days, whereas using a MAC your line switches over to the new ISP almost instantaneously.
If Orange do not deliver your MAC within n days, then I would cancel the account and sue Orange for any associated cost for the new ISP to create the connection. You could also add in some notional amount for the downtime. Suing is quite easy using the small claims track; you can even do it online.
