Hi, I have just started with Orange ( I realy hope i have not made a big mistake here !!!) After my line went live they told me I could not get the 8Mb I was told I would get. They say it is BT's fault as the exchange will only support 2Mb. I find this hard to belive as I have had 8Mb for the last 2 years with Bulldog. I live about 1/2 mile from the Mile End exchange so distance is not an issue. I have included a link below which tells you about my exchange.
So any ideas ? Who is telling porkies, orange say 2Mg max and BT say 8Mg max ?
Any help would gratefully recieved.............
With Bulldog it's possible you were on an ADSL 2+ connection which would give you generally faster speeds than with the upto 8 meg services. I'm not overly familiar with Bulldog though.
Your exchange info suggests you're probably on the Orange LLU service, similar to Bulldog, it goes through Orange's equipment at the exchange instead of BT's.
We'd need to see the line stats from your livebox/router to be able to tell what sort of speed the line could really do.
Hi where is the best place to get the results from? Cannot use speedtester.BT as it just shows error and will not run test. If you need the settings of my Netgear which settings do you need?
If the BT one won't work that suggests you really are on an LLU connection.
The stats can be named various things. Look for anything mentioning...
downstream attenuation,
downstream margin,
Signal to noise ratio,
SNR,
noise margin,
downstream/upstream rate, speed or sync.
There's plenty of examples of the ones the livebox gives in a lot of the posts in here, you may want to take a look as they're a good example of what to look out for.
Your exchange details suggest you are on Oranges LLU. The alternative would be that you are on ADSMAX, however, seeing as people have a better performance on ADSLMAX than on LLU it stands to reason that you are on LLU.

This just the sort of Bull**** Orange will tell the unknowing customer, trying to place the blame somewhere else where the blame lies totally in Oranges lap. It is ORANGES FAULT that your exchange can only support 2mb.
Sadly, do not hold your breath for some miraculous cure- you'll perish in the attempt.
Things are gtting better, after being with Orange for a week now I lose my connection about every 5 mins and the line speed is averaging 0.7mg. But best of all between 7.30 and 8.00 every night I lose connection until the next day !!!!
Having spoken to several Pauls in India and being told that both my laptops are faulty, my live box is faulty, my line is faulty (BT's fault of course !!), the exchange is faulty, my Netgear router is faulty and finaly having the phone chucked down on me last night because I argued that my router was fine and that the fault was with Orange (heaven forbid I was right !!) I rung customer service in the UK to be asked, would I wait until monday as Orange bb were having a meeting due to a number of complaints from customers like me with service problems ?? I asked how many and he admitted that it was thousands.........
So after asking him again to log my complaint I told them they had 5 working days to sort out the problems with the service or I want my MAC code so that I can leave, I don't expect an easy transition.......
Anyone know a good reliable ISP that likes Macs ??
A green bag has arrived so that i can send my livebox back.....yippee !! I have "downgraded" to the free 2mg service (I wish I could get 2mg line speed !!) and I am now off to another ISP. Which one I don't know yet, but it has to be an improvement on this.....
Until then I refuse to speak to "Paul" in India again ( no none of my equipment is faulty !!), have anymore line checks (after 4 checks, the blasted thing is still working fine !!) I have resigned myself to the fact I will lose my connection around 6.30pm weekdays and 2.30 in the afternoon at weekends and that it will disconnect repeatedly until that happens.............aah and as for a 2mg line speed............ ....is all I can say to that happening !!
Oh and I am not waiting another 72 hours for Orange to sort out the problem !!
The whole Orange BB experience has not been the best.......
An update, my internet is still connected (at 560kbps) and it gone 8.00pm !!
And Orange have told me I will have my MAC code within 5 working days. So happy days........so far. Must add customer service were very helpful !!
