I have been having incredibly poor performence - 600K max! After months of this I pushed for a MAC code today only to be told that if I call BT and ask them if there is a limit of speed on my line and also if they could increase the "Gain" (not sure what that is) the problem may be fixed. I agreed to do this and if BT can't help me then I want to call back to get the MAC without any grief and they agreed.
I haven;t called BT yet - are they telling my rubbish about this "gain" thing or is calling BT the thing to do?
Gain should be checked as part of a fault report if it's believed to be the cause.
As they mentioned asking BT about a speed limit that could suggest you're on ADSL Max in which case it's possible you've got a stuck profile. To be sure though we'd need to check your line stats and/or try doing a test on:

Most ISP's will get in touch with BT on your behalf as Orange are the customer of BT not you and BT will probably tell you that if your on MAX , its a bit much that Orange do not look after their customers and take responsibility of the service THEY supply or in quiete a lot of cases don't supply.

I am pretty sure from the sounds of what you guys say it was a stalling tactic. I will call BT tomorrow so I can say I tried it when I request the MAC code. I am on ADSL Max, but Orange tried the re-profiling ten day thing at the beginning of April when I first really started complaing. Is there something else related to a stuk profile they should have tried?
Here is my latest speedtester results:
v IP profile for your line is - 7000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8096 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 12 kbps
