Yes although I don't so much defend them as try to point out all the possibilities and what's supposed to happen. I'm not afraid to say when something someone's been told is totally wrong though.
I've seen enough, however, to know there's two sides to every problem and what someone's been told, interpretted or assumed (both on the customer's and Orange's side) can be very different from reality.
so then is it true when they say that they are waiting for the engineers to get back to them and that it takes so long, and that they can not contact them?
Tech support aren't supposed to, they're supposed to go by what the faults system says. Generally in the past if you called BT about an issue you'd rarely get through to a proper engineer but just someone who would check details of what was going on for you. As with most things it was luck when you got through as to how experienced they were and what they'd be able to do. As for LLU there's very little direct contact.
In general though the faults system is supposed to deal with most things and when something's been done there's a faults team who look into it.

I used one of the suggested settings MTU 1430 RWin 166800 on DrTcP and I regained access to the lost sites.
Having re-read this thread, it is clear that these problems have Orange as their root cause. It's all very well saying "tweak the MTU settings" or "your router needs a new driver", but the fact that this problem has been occuring to people all over the country using (or not using) all sorts of combinations of firewalls, routers, USB modems and different verions of Windows is evidence that something OUTSIDE of people houses/systems has been happening - or are we expected to believe that the same problem has been caused spontaneously throughout the UK?
All it would need is a bit of honesty from Orange about what's going on and how to fix it and perhaps they would lose so many customers.
Its only through this excellent site that I managed to get mine fixed - thanks to everyone.
