Hi, i've been reading around and noticed a lot of people have similar problems to me. This has only started this last week or so:
My connection just randomly drops throughout the day, and it is guaranteed to drop after 11 o clock EVERY night! It's a complete jooke now and Orange won't get back to me whenever i tell them. Whats the point in paying if i can't use when i want to!? I have a few questions for you people, becasue i know Orange wont tell me straight:
1. How much do i have to pay if i cancel my Orange contract(it still has ages left)?
2. Whats a MAC code i read about?
3. And more importantly(to me), if i cancel, is it possible to keep my existing freeserve email address? I've been using it for 7 years now and i need to keep it. It's the ONLY reason i'm still with Orange.
It's a Migration Authorisation Code, lets you transfer to another ISP with as little downtime as possible.
Be aware though, depending on what's causing the specific problem doing this may still leave you with the same issue.
Generally if your livebox @ light is flashing fast when it goes off or ADSL light on a speedtouch modem flashes and you're not on an LLU connection then the problem is much more likely to go with you when migrating.

The email address will work even if you cancel. It reverts to a pay as you go account so would eventually expire if you don't use dialup at all but you can reactivate it when that happens.

Please let me know guys.

I Can answer numbers 1 and 2.
1. You will have to pay the remaining months of your contract the standard price you pay each month
2. A MAC code is a code you can get through e-mail or post which you give to your new ISPs when you want to Migrate. Then you don't get any downtime, Except when the new ISP have enabled the line and you need to install the new router and things.
I'm actually using a Speedtouch 550 wireless router i brought myself.
What happens is the DSL and the Internet lights go off and thats it - no connection. So i powercycle the router a couple times and the DSL light come back on, and then eventually(couple minutes) the Internet light does and it OK again. I would think it was a router problem but the fact it switches off everyday at the same time would say otherwise wouldn't it?
Any suggestions? Also, what is LLU?

BREACH OF CONTRACT
Orange are clearly in breach of the contract and Orange should be paying you compensation.
Each monthly payment you make to Orange is made in advance.
A dispute over the contract is not grounds to refuse to issue a MAC code. New rules from Ofcom state that the MAC code must be provided in 5 days or they can fine company 10% of their turnover.
If i say that they aren't going to just accept it and waiver the 'get out' fee are they?
I don't know what to do at all. If it goes off tonight i'll phone them like they said to("phone us at 11pm when your line goes off and we'll check it).
I got my mate to just do a check of the line for me as he works at BT and it found no faults so i'm pretty sure Orange will do the same. And then they will blame it n the router i'm guessing.
It's not as simple as saying they're breaching the contract. This appears to be a case where the connection works the majority of the time except for a short period at 11pm. Something like that usually isn't enough grounds to escape the contract.
By the sounds of it the problem will be down to some external factor causing some sort of interference. These sorts of problems can be very hard to track down simply due to the possible sources and scope of where it could be coming from.

In this case you are probably right.
What is annoying me that we see on here time and time again when they are clearly in breach of the contract yet they are bullying people into paying a cancellation fee.

I totally agree with what you said keith and they are still advertising free broadband etc on telly sucking more people in targeting the newcomer who know no better and trust its a good deal, unfortunately finding out otherwise after being well and truly locked in a 12 month contract thats when they find sites like Orangeproblems and its too late.
How they are getting away with this excuse for a service is beyond me and the FALSE advertising, ide like to see Ofcom punish them and order Orange to reduce their contracts to 1 month Orange wouldn't last beyond the next 18 months but that will never happen Ofcom just lets them get away with it.
Regards

Thanks for you help people. Well last night, it cut off at 10pm, came back on at 10.30 after i ran a setup again. It then went off at 11pm again. And then it was on and off till i went bed. I just had another dropout just now, but it then came back straight away. It's crap basically, how can i rely on it.
On another note, we found out we have been paying £22.99 instead of £19.99! Another common thing i've read on here, my mum phoned them(it's under her name) and they said "we don't know why it's happened it just has". They were clueless liars really. We then asked how much it would cost for us to get out of the deal and he told us this, i quote:
"Let me look....it won't cost you anything actually because you aren't under contract with us. You just need to give us 30 days notice".
That should be correct, the £22.99 package is an older package which hasn't be around for at least 10 months.
Unless you choose to change package then you'll normally stay on the package you signed up onto.

Does that mean i shouldn't have to pay then to get out?
Also, the connection seems to be going down more often now. Today it was hardly connected for an hour without going down. Any ideas? I'm not sure if there is anything i can do, or best to just leave Orange???
