After 14 years of very loyal membership to Freeserve/Wanadoo and now Orange, I've requested my MAC code from the Orange care team, and was surprisd to be told that i should receive it by Tuesday 1/5 (without any attempted defering persuasion to stay) at the latest by normal post.
I was very tempted to join BT option 3 unlimited, (as they supply a router modem free of charge that can connect upto 10 P.C's / Laptops.) but, after talking to my brother, and looking through google for complaint Forums, Iam now not at all sure whether i should leave Orange? As he, and other sites have pointed several Major things wrong with BT, along with other leading I.S.P's? Such the like's of, BT's call centres are in India, many of the complaints from customer's, are similar problems to that of Orange, i.e slow speeds, timed out's, none connection's, failling promises of returning a call, faults at exchanges out of their control etc. etc.
I beleive that a MAC code request is valid for 30 day's? If so, will i have to enter into a new contract if i chose to stay with Orange? or, do i let the 30 day's expire and carry on as normal?
The main reason i ask this question is, no matter who i choose to go with, I will have to enter into a new contract of 3, 6, 12 or even 18months, and i now feel alot more research on my behalf is needed, before i go putting my trust into another I.S.P where good people like ourselves have fallen into the" I wish I had'nt trap." and, unfortunately some times it's a case of, " better the devil you know".
I've also read some where, ( this will have most of you long termer's either screaming with laughter? or raged with anger) That Orange by the end of this year WILL be the leading I.S.P with speeds estimated to triple what they are now in most area's?
I'm hoping Elthana will be one of the replies to this post of mine, as over the last 12 months, i've taken a lot of notice to what our Main Guru has said, and to me, He's still to be proven wrong.

Hi Ian
Their are plenty of good ISP's with 1 month contracts check out Thinkbroadband most ISP's have forums there and DSL ZoneUK the link is the ISP ratings page and comments where Orange resides at the bottom of the main ISP list. 3 members of my family are with BT and they have had no problems whatsover with them.
Check out UKFSN 1 month contract and IDNet Broadband 1 month contract and free expert support theres plenty more check out the links.
Good Luck
Regards

If you either choose or are unable to use the code within the 30 days it will expire. Nothing actually happens, you're not entered into a new contract and you won't be just cut off. You just continue on, if you were in contract before then that still applies, if you weren't then you remain out of contract.

Research is always a good idea whenever you're entering into any sort of contract. Both large and small ISP's have their problems. Larger ones generally have more red tape and their support varys a lot. Smaller ISP's on the other hand can and do go out of business, the consequences of that are getting better but it still causes chaos.

I've not really heard anything about that but I assume you're talking about ADSL 2+ which triples the maximum speed from 8 to 24 meg. This requires one of two things though, BT's 21CN upgrade being done in your area or being in an Orange LLU area. Either way the livebox can't do those speeds so they'd need a new box which I believe is sometime away. Except maybe some very limited trials I wouldn't expect Orange to be doing ADSL 2+ anytime this year.

I've just moved over to UKFSN (part of Entanet) myself and the difference really is astonishing. A fast, reliable, trouble free service - if you check out the surveys on various broadband sites the Entanet resellers are right at the top every time. UK based support, too.
I was frequently getting under 400k with Orange 8meg LLU - now I get about 6meg most of the time, and the only thing that has changed is my ISP (same router/modem, phone line, filters, exchange, everything).
As Steve points out, they have a 1 month rolling contract so if you weren't happy (unlikely, judging from my experience so far) you can change provider straight away. You have to ask yourself why some ISPs insist on locking you in for 12 months before you even get to try the service.
LOL@ADSL 2+ coming from Orange. I can see the advertising now "Up to 24 meg service with fair use policy!" and then you get no speed increase whatsoever but another 12 month contract. LOL where else have you seen this sort of claim before? P*** funny.
On another note, you already have the likes of Be surging ahead with ADSL2+. Not only have they currently performed to expectation, but by the time Orange are even close to rolling out this service other ISP's would have far more time to iron out the kinks and perfect the service.
Orange have not done themselves any favours (as currently seen, in their substandard services, misleading advertising, negative press), they certainly missed the boat in pioneering any new service thats likely to redeem themselves. The self destruction is already taking place...
