Changing the PPP server from PPPoa to PPPoe had no effect.
Orange promised that our service would be resumed today. it still says PPP server down.
My housemate has just called them 3 times in a row (technical support then customer support)
1) their server is down and so could not help at all
2) their server wasn't down at all and was working fine, and he was told there was nothing they (orange) could do and that he should speak to customer support
3) the customer support said that it was a technical issue and he should speak to the technical team!!!!!!
4) now every time he calls it is "engaged" - it looks like they've blocked our house telephone number to their support lines
THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE F***ING JOKE.
I've got a question - if I order Be internet on the same BT telephone line, will it work, with the Orange internet still in place?

There can be minor local outages in systems that different teams won't notice, he shouldn't have sent you to customer support though. It's definitely a tech problem so they're the ones that need to deal with it.

Odd, they don't block numbers at all, there's simply no facility available to do that.

You can't order a new broadband ISP onto a line with broadband already there. It either needs to be removed by cancelling or migrated by requesting a MAC code.
This error is sometimes due to a problem with the account. The PPP server is used to validate your credentials, 2 cases you use wrong credentials (check your login/pass) from the admin webpage or there is a problem with your account.
It s easier to threat the customer support because they don t want to loose their customers, on the contrary to the technical support who does not care.
