I think your course of action of leaving Orange is wise, especially since your business relies on a reliable broadband service. Who knows how much you have personally lost in revenue due to Oranges disgusting service.
Check out www.dslzoneuk.net or thinkbroadband.com for sizing up potential ISPs.
Btw, Orange never do answers, only excuses...
This should go a warning for others hoping to expect a reliable/dependable service with Orange to run a business- Its not worth the risk, pick a Top 5 ISP for piece of mind.
Been working very sporadically all day - I am beginning to get a phobia about sending emails - only now send if I absolutely have to as I know the problems will just wind me up no end. Still had no reply from Orange Customer Service - rang them at weekend to be told it was because I have a Belkin Router "they often cause this problem?????" I am also worried about changing provider because I am not sure who offers the best value etc. I have changed from the Orange site builder and bought myself a domain because I couldnt stand the bull**it about when I would actually be able to add to my web site their site builder didnt work for months on end so I gave up. I am so pleased I found this forum - it is comforting ot know I am not alone with my problems!

Open a free Google mail account its a pain changing addresses but its worth it and can be used in outlook express etc and uses different pop and smtp servers so it will bypass Oranges dire servers.
GMail

Am just off to do it now - I cannot stand it any more. It is worth the hassle of changing addresses jsut to get rid of Orange Stress. The future will be bright as I will no longer be Orange.
It his highly infuriating when wanting to send that important email you've been writing for ages, a couple of others have gone through then the error message
0x800CCC0F comes up - so many times and so many searches on the internet it is now a code I will remember for the rest of my life.
The most frustrating thing is, as others have mentioned, when calling for help, and following all the little menu options correctly, you always come through to the wrong guy in the middle of India, who cannot transfer to you to the correct guy. He says he does not support your router or it is outlooks fault coz everything in your account is fine (i.e. you have paid).
I have been referred on several occasions to Microsoft outlooks customer support. Most annoying of all is the guys on the phone make me question my own competence, thinking somehow it is my fault.
I do try and tell them on many occasions that nothing has changed in the settings since it was working, nothing has been downloaded and also I have deactivated any last drop of protection to my PC to make it work.
It could all be one big conspiracy - trying to infect all Orange computers with a super virus.
Wanado works occasionally (more than Orange though)
Unless one is particularly attached to an email program ala Outlook, I really do suggest using one of the many 'free' email services available on the net e.g. hotmail, gmail etc etc.
Personally, I find the flexibility of such email services trumps Oranges- *touch wood* Hotmail has ALWAYS been reliable for me...

the problem is we are all paying for service which is not being rendered.
Outlook is the client I use to send the bulk of my emails since its interface is easer to use for complex stuff like meeting organising and contact searches.
I dont even want an Orange email address - i just want the SMTP to work
