Prescot in Liverpool got changed to LLU a few weeks ago was getting 4.5Meg before that, since the connection was changed livebox says I should be 9Meg but best I've got is 0.8Meg, Not had any connection for 2 weeks and finally got it back today and I am only getting 0.2meg!
I am at Langside exchange Glasgow. I am getting speeds of no greater than 0.5 Meg.
After speaking to many people at Orange no one was helpful at all in India and tried to get rid of me ASAP. I got through to a UK call centre and when I told the girl I was recording the call she would not answer any questions. I called again and forgot to say i was recording. i was told that even though I have been paying for 8 Meg since November and my line can support 7.5 I was only getting Max 2 Meg as the exchange was full. She said I would have to wait till someone left before I was put up to 8 Meg. I was dues no compensation and I would be due the remaining £150 on the contract if i canceled because the contract said up to 8 Meg. I would be happy with 2 Meg just now but this is pathetic. The answer was, we can't do anything, we won't do anything, you can't do anything - tough!
Orange are a disgrace, surely there must be a case for compensation for everyone who has been wronged by these monsters.
A bad service is unfortunate; bad, smug, uncaring, deceitful, and nasty customer service is despicable.

If you are getting poor speeds on LLU name and shame your exchange here.
Starting with mine:
Weston-super-Mare - speeds 2.2 - 2.7
Orange will then know which exchanges they have to work on - probably all of them. These posts will also show which exchanges have Orange LLU, details of which Orange do not fully publish.
I have read on another newsgroup that Orange TS are saying:
"That the only `deliberate` capping in place is where users abuse the limits". A fault was raised for that exchange - result awaited.

It is now clear that if you are on Orange LLU anywhere in the country the best speed you will get is 2.7 if you are lucky. Otherwise it will be considerably slower.

Orange, like all ISPs does not own any part of the network or control bandwidth per se, it merely pays the big boys who DO own the network infrastructure (Cable & Wireless etc) for pre-allocated bandwidth. Bandwidth to these people is at a premium, closely monitored & controlled, with the heavy players, i.e. banks, the stock exchange etc getting reserved & *guaranteed* bandwidth at very high cost (for example, Cable & Wireless has a building near the Millennium dome specifically for this purpose - fact)... which brings me to my point & possible explanation of what these cowboy chancers are actually up to.
1/ They are hoping or rather have assessed/calculated that they will get enough subscribers on the 8Meg merry-go-round quickly enough to pay for what they have promised you & I (contractually!) before the gaff is blown. A big financial gamble, but you & I are too small to be of any concern to them.
2/ Your Orange Broadband *kewl deal* will not give you any higher throughput than 2MBits downstream (those that say they are getting higher are probably mistaken.. or have a broken box!! lol!)
Reason being that Orange has capped our service at 2Mbits (or less depending on how heavy the 'traffic' is in your area)..... because at THIS point in time, that is ALL they have PAID FOR IN ADVANCE! When they reach the projected number of subscribers to cover the projected cost of this bandwidth (if they haven't been taken down by Ofcom, who are probably well aware of what they are up to) you & I will get our 6.5 - 8Mbit promised connection. Maybe
3/ If they let customers go, their projected revenue & therefore means to finally BUY the bandwidth they have promised evaporates. They fall flat on their arses in spectacular fashion & will be out of pocket in a BIG way.... & we can't have that can we? So, repeat the mantra... *** the customer cannot leave. Do not give the customer the MAC number. Ever. His subscription over the next 12 months has been factored in... don't f*ck up the ledger!!! ***
4/ As for customer 'service' tennis... have you noticed that they try & keep you on the line or on hold for as long as possible?....
navigate automated menu to a real person... 2 minutes;
they speak to technician (that doesn't exist BTW)... 1-3 minutes;
change the filter... (stalling tactic)... 2-4 minutes... potentially unplugging the very phone you are calling them on if you aren't smart, & therefore need to call again.
'perform a line test' .... b*****ks! You have to call again. Smart eh? Just like a money-go-round.
They want your money, nothing else & it's an extremely effective money maker... so... don't bother calling India again, save your money because the person at the other end really has no more idea about things other than what is written in their flowchart style script.
The greedy little piggies that dreamt up this scandalous abuse of public trust so they can get rich quick need to be taught a lesson. First, we need to tell everyone we know what we think of this sh***y company & its dirty wheeling & dealing so they get no more business (you know how fast bad news travels). We need to stop calling for technical assistance, THERE IS NO *REAL* TECHNICAL SUPPORT, GOT THAT?) that only makes them more money.
Finally we need to ALL complain to Ofcom en-masse (call it a mail storm!) & nail them for breach of contract/trading standard.
Some interesting views Csmith, all of which I can see and understand, afterall, if the shoe fits...One thing that might also be a factor in the limited bandwidth being given to customers:
Their LLU equipment is not fit for purpose. Even if they wanted to increase the bandwidth, say on those with half a meg to 2.7meg, they couldn't even if they wanted to because it would mean an overhaul of the equipment at the exchange.
On the contrary to some reports of people getting highspeed broadband on LLU, then it magically disappearing, this is a possibility as I suspect not all exchanges have exactly the same equipment. So the older the LLU equipment in the exchange the most likely you are to have a low speed.
Your suggestions about Orange buying time to get as much money as they can, as well as not letting go of customer unless they've been bled is spot on. They are planning new services near the end of this year, so it stands to reason they've done figures and come up with a plan thats going to allow them have enough cash to plough into an advertising campaign. I doubt the services will live up to expectation, and I'm pretty sure they'll be offering you the minimum requirements to run these services.
But you know what? It'll be probably successful, because that what Oranges excels at- luring the customer. So in 2008 you'll have a load of people complaining that the service isn't much cop, and they want to leave but they'll have to pay for the privilage. And so the merry-go-round continues.
I felt inclined to join this forum after reading about the many and varied complaints about Orange.
Sometime in about mid 2006, I paid a one-off fee of £20 to upgrade my BB speed from 1Mb to 2Mb, and was pleased with the result as I did notice an increase in speed when online.
Now, in about January of this year I got an e-mail from Orange saying words to the effect of 'watch this space, you'll be getting an important upgrade very soon, and you need do NOTHING to receive it'. So, once I had got my upgrade to 8Mb, I noticed a DROP in speed, almost right away. Well, this has been going on ever since, with speeds averaging about 5-700K, and only rarely getting up to, at most, 1,3Mb (I'm only about 750 metres from my exchange).
So, I rang Orange last week to request a MAC code, and was put through to a 'techie' for a chat where I was offered-and refused-a livebox. I told of my unhappiness at the speed drop since January and was told I was capped at 1Mb.....NO mention about the upgrade I'd paid £20 for! Anyway, I stuck to my guns about wanting the MAC code and left it at that. After being on the phone to them, I did a line check of my exchange-Ashington-and it says Orange LLU 'NOT AVAILABLE', but I see it's on the list at the start of this thread.
I now have my MAC code, and have been checking what's on offer from Virgin, and part of their site does a line check to see if BB is available..it says it is, but there is a line 'problem', which may be an alarm system, or the line may need upgrading. A line renewal/upgrade was done in my street last summer, so all I can think of, is this is something to do with LLU? If so, will this prevent me from migrating to Virgin???
(Sorry for writing 'War And Peace' here, by the way!!).
Cheers!
