Hi sorry if this question seems dumb but its just something i have been puzzled about for some time now. I called up Orange to complain about my ongoing speed issues and i told the nice man on the phone that in the adsl info page it always says my connection has been on for 2 days or so then all of a sudden it must disconnect or somthing (not that i notice) for when i cheak it later that day and it says 2 hours. The man at Orange said that this was to do with my ip profile expireing apparently they do this about once every 2 days. Well if this was the case would this be counted by BT as a disconnection?? if it is then there system is a bit silly.
If i leave mine on it resets my netgear every 24 hours and gives me a different ip address so i believe it is disconnecting at the exchange to do this.Im not really sure but it is happening, most of the time i turn it off anyway.

The exchange equipment does not automatically cut you off. There are many people whose up-time is measured in weeks, let alone days. The Orange CS bod told you a load of cobblers as usual. Your modem disconnects when it loses sync due to errors on your line. Those errors will no doubt be the cause of your low speed complaint.
You must track down the cause of the errors and it is just as likely to be something in your house as it is the telephone line to the exchange.
Do you know whether you are on LLU or ipstream max? Please post your connection stats.
Is it really.. I assumed it was some kind of automatic thing too.. Just checked my connection time on the livebox after realising my stats had improved slightly and the time I've been connected is 1 hour 24 mins.. Funny that because I haven't disconnected it for at least 24 if not 36 hours now.. I will try and keep a closer eye on my disconnections from now on.. Thanks for the heads up..
i am on ip stream max
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Interleave
Noise margin (dB) : 15.0
Attenuation (dB) : 24.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 10592
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 7616 448
strange thing is my Noise margin ranges from 13.5 to 16.9 and i notice that every time it disconnects that number normally chnages is there any way i can make it stay the same or not??
Also my ip profile is 2.
Is there any way that this is bts problem becuse i am quite close to the exchange only 1.12km syays sam knows so really i would expect the whole 8 or 7 not 2!! I have already disconnected all wires aprart from 2 and 5 or whatever the cables are i am supposed to leave in lol

It's completely natural for it to vary a bit, it's related to the amount of noise on the line which varys depending on how busy things are, electrical equipment in proximity to the line, etc. It's the attenuation that should normally not change.

Technically it should be BT's problem, if there is one, as AFAIK Orange don't have any direct involvement with the profile system.
Usually the profile will move up within 3 days (sometimes this doesn't work quite right in the first 10 days though) providing there are no low sync or disconnection events. Though how many disconnections it counts before this prevents a profile increase I have no idea.
From your stats, providing it's stable, I'd expect a profile of 6.5 / 7 / 7.15 meg.
