I thought I'd share this story as once again the Orange "Care Team" met all my expectations...
Somewhat sick of the email problems recently, plus all the very slow speeds I've been experiencing I finally took the plunge and rang Orange for a MAC code. I also wanted to know what exactly they did to my account 2 months previously when they fiddled about with the service. The Samknows website also showed that my line appeared to have switched to LLU, but without any presence in the exchange (Crowthorne), which I thought was odd. Anyway...
Julie at Orange CS put me straight through to Andrew on the Care Team. After some debate as to what exactly was happening with email (he blamed me for not phoning them to sort it out - I in turn referred him to this website) I finally established that I had mysteriously migrated to an LLU line. He said that Samknows was not accurate and that I should be getting 5.5mbps. When I pointed out it was about 0.8mbps he said it was because I was on an old Wanadoo tariff which was restricting my service (complete tosh I assume). Anyway after I refused the usual bribes he offered to email me the MAC code.
After getting off the phone I range both BT up to sort out a new connection. At this point I was told that they didn't accept the LLU MAC codes (or they might not work) and as such I would be looking at a cease and reprovide. At the moment this is not an option, so I rang Orange back 5 minutes later and asked them to not bother sending me the MAC code. Bruce on CS put me through to Dan who assured me that (a) they'd love to keep me as a customer and (b) Graham his manager would email me to confirm that they wouldn't send me the MAC code.
So today, at 1700 this evening I get an email from Orange, with, yep you guessed it the MAC code! They really don't give a t*ss about retaining customers! Anyway it's the first laugh that Orange have ever given me!
If I were you I'd be using that MAC asap. BT may not accept it but there are plenty of other isp's that do. I migrated to newnet with an LLU MAC no problem, at no charge and now have a stable connection running at between 5 & 6mbps. Check the reviews here http://www.dslzoneuk.net/

BT introduced a reverse migrations process on 21st December last year. This enables BT or any other provider to accept LLU MAC's from customers migrating from LLU to BT's IP Stream sevices. This is now part of the new MAC regulations.
