This is a bit weird ...if I try and send an email using either Outlook Express or the web based mail link on the Orange homepage with lottery in the subject line it fails to send the email. In OE it gives the following:
An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'lottery', Account: 'Grahams', Server: 'smtp.freeserve.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '550 Error: Message content rejected <6d3a29482d20efd68c403bbddbc4f73c>', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC69
I leave the message part totally blank so can't understand why it is rejecting the Message content!
From the web based email it gives this:
Your email has not been sent because the server has rejected the email addresses you have entered. I know full well that the email address is correct so the problem seems to be happening however I try and send an email and this is from two different PC's
If however I put lotter in the subject line it works fine in both cases. I have tried sending to various addresses, including my own, with the same result.
Anyone any ideas why the server seems to not like the word 'lottery'?
I had the same problem about 3 weeks ago. In that case it was replying to someone who had put "lottery" in the subject of their email, so I had not even put the word in myself.
I suspect it's another unadvertised anti-spam action.
Probably anti-spam action. I've had the same problem sending messages with Euromillions in the subject line or message body, including replies to messages I've already received though with the same wording.
Who are Orange to tell us what words we want to use in our emails? We pay good money to them to provide a service, and so long as the content of our email isn't illegal* it is none of their goddam business what words we use.
So we're going to be forced to use the same 'tricks' that spammers employ? Like "l0ttery" or " l o t t e r y" or any other variation you care to choose.
This is on a par with websites that use javascript to disable the right-click button to stop you copying their images. It just DOESN'T ACHIEVE ANYTHING!! That doesn't stop people who have a tiny bit of IT knowledge copying the images, and is irritating to everyone else who wants to right-click a link to open it in a new window (or tab these days!!)
I daresay they're not the only ISP doing this though. Anyone know?
Phew! Rant over ;-)
* And some would argue that even illegal content is not their business either.
