We are keeping a close eye on this topic and we hope to be able to add a feature in the very near future for adding your speeds against your exchange... We will then be able to show you (and Orange) exactly what speeds people are getting in what areas...
Feel free to post any speed test results within this topic (e.g. from www.speedtest.net or another speed checker) along with your exchange (do not post your telephone number here!!!).

And now that i've cancelled, and am in the process of migrating to a new ISP, I get the following connection speeds most of the time!!!!
The Paris server is a lot slower than the London one so in theory your result should be faster if you had used the London server did you click on that by mistake?

I have recently changed to Max 8 megs My line is showing that is capable of 7.2 meg.
Initially, the change in speed was very noticeable, then suddenly, it went on the go slow, especially when downloading. I was most disappointed.
Having read bits of this forum, and bits from the Orange website, I decided to do a bit of self-help, I cleared my browser, emptied the temporary internet files folder, and defraged the computer. I then restarted the computer, and did a speed test at 05:41 this morning. The results are
I then restarted the computer, and did a speed test at 05:41 this morning. The results are
10,140 kbs download (more that doubled)
375 kbs upload
59 latency
my server is London
I guess the above is good.
I am pleased with the results
Looks good although that download speed is wrong. ADSL can do about 7.15 meg at maximum, not sure on LLU but even if that was running at 8 meg it still means that test was almost 2 meg wrong.
My experience
My Exchange was LLU'd 26/02/07 (Chandlers Ford)
After this speeds were about 2000 - 2700 kb/s
Syncing around 5000 - 6200 kb/s
This started to slow down to around 500 by 07/03/07 sometimes slower but also very erratic. I reported this to Orange and was told I had a fault.
On 23/03 lost connection ppp server down, then a bit of a merrygoround.
You know the routine reset box etc etc. To be fair I was told there was a fault and it would be fixed. Now using dial up.
04/04 lost ADSL completely.
07/04 Reconnected.
today sync 6140.
Speed tests have been around this mark since reconnection, more or less at anytime of day. (hope I did the link properly !)
Certainly an impressive speed, sure you're with Orange? Dispite the time of the test, I'm led to believe the maximum speed for 8 meg speed is about 7 megs. Where the extra 3 megs are coming from, who knows? From your upload I doubt its LLU at any rate.

A good example of why I don't trust flash based speedtests like that. Unless you're on an ADSL2+ connection, which you really would know about if you were, then it has to be wrong.

A wise thought Elhana. I checked again this morning, and the speed was now where near the same. It seems to be up and down like the Tower Bridge.
I must say, I thought the reading was high, considering the max I would normally get is 8 meg. Maybe the exchange went on temporary over-drive

Maybe you got a whole exchange to yourself
That would be nice!

And the moral of all this, speedtests should only be used as a guide and not taken as fact. It's much better to see what speeds you get from actual use, file downloads, especially multiple files (I find 2-3 from different sources is generally best) to maximise the connection are usually much better at this.
