I have been a customer since the freeserve days using pay as you go 56k.
I asked for my MAC the Monday before last. I phoned up again today as I hadn't got it like I was promised. They said that they never recieved request for a MAC code only a request to join a new £12.99 package. I clearly stated in the original phone call that I did not want to do the new package and that I just wanted my MAC. I was then promised to get this is 5 days, which it never did.
After I didn't receive my MAC I complained to the ISPA who wouldn't do anything until I spoke to their Complaints department.
This time when I phoned them up they wouldn't pass me on to the complaints department and the manager wasn't in. They have now promised to send it by Wednesday. I just this minute sent another compaint to ISPA.
As I will not get my MAC till Wednesday (at the best) my broadband will not be transfered over to Be until after my next payment goes to Orange. So I am going to lose out £29.99 because Orange claim that I never asked for a MAC code.
Should I cancel my Direct Debit as soon I get the MAC to stop them charging me for next month which I will only use for around 1 or 2 days (hopefully if the Be switch goes OK)?
i would suggest you dont just cancel your direct debit because Orange may not release the tag on your line if you do. If that happens then BE wont be able to activate your connection anyway.
I am not really an expert in this are so maybe a more knowledgeable member will tell you otherwise.
i have to pay £50 to release my contract with Orange because they signed me up for another 12 month contract and roped me in. it is money I would rather not pay but it is a small price to pay to get decent broadband.
I am not suggesting you pay if you dont think you owe money but for the amount of hassle and inconvenience you may suffer it may just be worth that fee.
I complained to ISPA over a week ago and have not heard anything from them, I dont really expect to now. i will just be glad to be away from a 100k connection speed.

As long as you get the order was succesful email usually within a couple of hours of submitting then you can log in the member centre and keep an eye on your order progress.

I haven't got the email yet, but I assume that is because it is Easter weekend so I will wait until Tuesday evening and give Be a ring if it hasn't gone through.

Did you tick the email and SMS notification during the ordering process?
Or try logging in to the member centre with the username and password you chose.

I can't remember if I ticked anything during ordering.
I ordered the broadband and left the MAC bit empty so I could put it in later once Orange gave it to me. Now I have put it in, and it isn't asking me for it anymore so I assume it has taken it and accepted it. On the Order Status page only the first orb is green, the rest are still grey.

Yes it should be ok now you should get an email at some point with when the router will be sent how to track it and when payment will be taken you get the first 2 days free to get your connection running properly good luck let us know how you get on

I didn't get an email, but the status has now changed in the members area. Says that it is awaiting activation, so it looks like the MACOrange gave me was correct.
Bring on Be 4x the speed I am on now for £5 a month less
Finally got activated today. Came home from work, no internet, looked at the admin of my netgear router and I had lost connection but it was seeing broadband there. It said the download speed was 2800kbps. Unplugged it and put the BeBox on. Reports 3100kbps.

Hi immoralg
Did you reconfigure the netgear to Betheres settings i use a Netgear too DG834PN
Make sure you optimise the Be connection with the BeBox first then If your satisfied with your connection and you want to use your Netgear and is ADSL 2+ compatable unplug the BeBox leave everything unplugged for about 30 to 40 mins to wait for the IP leases to expire then plug the Netgear in.
Heres the settings if you dont already have them
Basic settings
Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login? No
Password: No
Internet IP address: Dynamic
DNS address: Get Dynamically
scroll down to
Router MAC Address and check: "use this MAC address" and put in the MAC address thats on the bottom of the BeBox and click apply it should then connect.
The Netgear gives me around 2 megs more than the BeBox does.
Regards

I am using my BeBox. I was having teething problems with the connection with regular disconnections, so I switched to the Netgear and I managed to figure out the settings myself. But disconnections continued.
I am not back on the BeBox and have a pretty consistent connection. I think it may be due to the weather but it is still better than Orange.
I have a high attenuation of 61.5 so 3meg is best I can get.

Is LCC based what you use when you go LLU? I thought all broadband in the UK was VC Based with settings 0,38?
