Hi guys.....like most of us I have my problems with Orange....who doesn't ?
..... my main little gripe at the moment is that although I never lose connection when browsing (fingers crossed) if I leave the PC for a while, say to have lunch or whatever, when I come back, the browser can never find any page I ask for. I have to do a quick disconnect and reconnect in order to continue browsing. I thought it was some sort of settings problem but as it is intermittent I just don't think so......some days it doesn't even do this and other days it happens all the time.
Any ideas please?........
I have been in contact with Orange but well..nuff said eh?
Thanks for any help...commoner.

Did they try taking your through the USB hubs in device manager and turning off the power saving options? Sometimes these can cause problems with some USB devices.
hmmm....well thanks for the suggestion but yes I have been through the Power Management stuff and it is all set in my favour as you might say....... thanks anyway.

I don't know how you connect but on some routers there is a disconnect when idle for setting, ie it disconnects after a set number minutes. Could be worth checking.
well I connect with the Orange Speed touch Modem and my choice is "never disconnect"..in any case it doesn't actually disconnect, I have to do that manually and then reconnect, before the browser can find websites etc.....and no, I can't use OE or Windows Live Messenger until I do that.
Annoying thing is that it is not a constant fault......sometimes it goes for a whole day, sometimes half an hour.........
Elhana ...not being too clued up I'm not sure how to go about "pinging out"!

Firstly String, it's a USB modem so connections are controlled by Windows itself, could be the disconnect options but I suspect it's not that.
Just to be sure though go into Internet Options, Connections tab, select the speedtouch/orange connection and hit settings, click advanced and check the settings.
As for pinging...
Start > Run > type "command" and click ok.
You'll get a black window type in the following:
ping www.google.com
You want to see 4 replies, if not then try:
ping 216.239.39.99
If neither get any replies then it doesn't prove much except it can't seem to use the connection. Could be the modem or even the connection (but both unlikely in my opinion) or down to the drivers or some software playing up. If possible you might want to try another modem or prefrably an ethernet router to see what happens.
..OK thanks....well at least I now know what that means.....when properly connected I got the four replies .....when the problem occurred then no replies even though the modem still said connected.
I have the original Freeserve CopperJet usb modem......wonder if it's worth giving that a try.....it was working ok last time I used it.
Something else I noticed today......when I log on it now says Speed 2.2 Mbps, where as for the last few weeks it has said Speed 8.1 Mbps. Wonder what that means.....have I been capped or something?
Thanks for helping

Anyone solve this one? I have had the same problem for yonks; the ADSL and USB lights on the Speedtouch 330 modem stay steady green and Windows Dial-up Networking status say "Connected" and clock ticking away with zero Activity, but ALL Internet applications, e.g IE7, OE6, ... fails to respond until I force a Disconnect & Re-Connect.
Haven't yet worked out how long idle it takes to do this.
I've already tried and confirmed all suggestions in this thread.
