I thought I was the only person receiving such poor treatment from Orange.
I have been with this provider for about 7 years, first when they were Freeserve, then Wanadoo, now Orange.
I have had a 1MB connection package, unlimited bandwidth for about 3 years. I have always paid the maximum amount for my connection, i.e £27.99. Last year I was told I could increase my speed to 2MB and pay only £17.99 for the unlimited package.
My line did increase to 2MB for approximately 2 weeks, then it dropped back to 1MB. When I phoned customer services they said that is all my line is capable of, even though I told them I was on 2MB for 2 weeks, how can this be possible if my line will only support 1MB.
Since then I have been back and forwards on the telephone to them, often times being deliberately cut off by muppets because they didnt have an answer for me.
I am also an Orange mobile customer, have been for about 5 years. My friend who is also an Orange mobile customer took up their offer of free broadband back in November last year, I thought it sounded like a good package but as I play online games I wanted unlimited usage, I was informed I could have this package for £5 a month with an increase in speed to 5MB but I would have to take out a further 12 month contract, ok I thought, sounds like a good deal £5 rather than £17.99 and an increase in speed. So I signed up back in February.
Well, since then my speed has dropped to about 400KB with a low of 100KB. My friend has had no connection at all for close to 3 months!!!!!
I have phoned nearly everyday and told different things by different people. I was told my line could only accept 1MB, I was then given a number for BT to call. BT told me I could get upto 4MB on ADSL and between 5 and 8MB on a max product. I called Orange back and they said, no, BT are wrong you can only get 1MB. 2Well it was you who gave me the number for BT to check" I said. Fell on deaf ears. Asked to be put through to cancellations, amazingly the chap I spoke to there said customer services were wrong and I can have 5MB but I would have to take out another new contract as of Thursday last week. Ok, I thought, sounds good, "can you guarantee it?" I was told yes, it would happen in the next 3-6 days. Did it happen? No, just a further decrease in speed. Telephoned yesterday, was told "No, the person who told you that you can have 5MB was wrong, you can only have 1MB" I asked to cancel my account and was told I would have to pay £50 to do so as my contract only started in February.
WTF is wrong with company? I cannot believe so many people can tell me so many different things. As i left it yesterday, I was told that an engineer would call in the next 48 hours to rectify the problem once and for all.
I called Orange mobile to cancel my phone contract because I thought why should I give Orange any of my money if they are treating me so poorly. The lady I spoke to there said that the Broadband and Phone companies are different entities so she could not help with that but she could offer me a better package on my phone contract, more minutes, unlimited texts and a £50 credit to my account, so in effect, next month I wouldnt pay a phone bill and I could use the money to pay of my Broadband contract.
Sounds like a good plan? what does everybody else think?
I am absolutely disgusted with the treatment by Orange and really begrudge paying a cancellation fee but it sounds like I have no alternative.
I have made a complaint to ISPA already. I really hope soemthing can be done about this shoddy company. I couldnt believe it when I came across this website yesterday to dind so many people in a similar situation. Absolutely disgusting.
Hi
Something must be done to highlight this problem again i have written to the ISPA and Watchdog again. Orange can not treat people like this surely? I have spent another week on the phone and sometimes online if its connected.
I feel for the people going through the same. The only response I have had from Orange (except the phone back in 24 hours blah blah) is I will have to pay if I want to leave. I say they have had enough of my money for no where near what they say they could provide me with.
