Since 'upgrading' to BB from my old Freeserve 'Anytime' account, I have been unable to upload or download to my webspace with the Livebox firewall ON (medium or high setting). It's absoutley OK dissabled (OFF) as you would expect....
I can connect to my webspace OK, but when dragging/dropping files, the 'Transfering Files' icon remains lit until it times out.
I've tried selecting the PASV (passive data connections) checkbox in the proxy settings of TFTP, but this has no effect. Also tried NAT FTP Port Forwarding in the advanced section of the configuration setting for the livebox - still no good.
I want to set up a webcam, using a wireless laptop as a server and do not want my firewall switched off 24/7. If it was just a matter of updating a web site every now & then, turning off the firewall would not be a problem...
I hope you might be ale to help me out. I took a bundled offer of Orange Broadband with my phone. But its been a month since I ordered but Orange has not been able to start the service. I recieved the live box but all I get is Invalid ADSL authetication..I borrowed a friend's speed touch modem and it keeps giving the - Error 691 invalid user/name password..even with the test user..
So after hours on phone with Technical support and multiple line testps..they are telling me that my line was incompatible with IPStreammax..and
they are migrating me and the migration will be complete by 4th April..I dont understand if I will be able to access the broadband at all..The customer support doesnt allow me to cancel as they say I am in contract and I need to pay cancellation fee...I dont know if Orange will ever fix my problems or should I just escape out of it and not waste my time...
In general the firewall doesn't interfere. It's probably some bug with FTP packets simply being caught out for some reason.
As long as you setup port forwarding, the software needed along with making the nessecary holes in any software firewalls all should be fine.
Thanks for the reply, but I am on the verge of giving this all up as a bad job... I have assigned myself a static IP address and set up FTP TCP port forwarding by the letter with no change in behaviour evident. I can download files OK with other servers (epson's ftp support server is a good example), but not a chance with Orange's ftp site.
There must be a reason for these 'lost packets' - logging on is OK - data transfer is another matter....
I thought I'd give Orange's 'Technical Support' a go, and after waiting a good 20 minutes, managed to get through to some non English-speaking trollop, who hadn't the faintest idea about what I was talking about....
" Waht is Telepin FTP ? - I do not undersand" etc. etc... I just hung up.

Very odd, using the two and trying the test logins and your own details on both should prove that there isn't a problem at your end. Just to check though, you weren't able to log on using the following test account...
bt_test_user@fs
I presume you've had your username and password spelt out to you quite a few times by now.

It's pretty rare for Max to cause that sort of problem although it's certainly possible. Really it should be BT suggesting the fix after doing the tests but it's hard to tell.

Well I'd wait and see what happens on the 4th April, the order will already be in place for that so cancelling at this point may cause some minor problems. After that it's upto you if you want to cancel, I'd say you've got a good case as obviously something's wrong if they've had to migrate you down off Max.
