Tonight at around 9 my internet went down i had to unplug the livebox and plug it back in and the reading have gone down!!
...
Noise margin (dB) : 10.6
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 9440
...
What is happening i know i am supposed to experiance disconnections in the first 10 days but why is the noice margin going up and down??
The magin varying is pretty normal, during the peak hours it normally will drop a little as there's more activity and noise on the lines in general. As your stats are over the 8meg sync rate they shouldn't effect your speeds even if you were getting the full speed possible.
As long as the profile is "released" at some point then you should be able to get faster speeds, it just often, for people with high sync lines, gets stuck for a while. Usually this sorts itself within those 10 days.
Hi i am now on my 11th day since being on the broadband service and my speedtest results are
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 2000 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7616 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1853 kbps
My livebox says
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Interleave
Noise margin (dB) : 13.9
Attenuation (dB) : 25.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 9984
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Just wondering is it still a case of waiting or is there something wrong??
Thanks Jdaco6
You may want to give it a day or so more, then contact Orange about it.
The main thing to know first is if the MSR (Maximum Stable Rate) and FTR (Fault Threshold Rate) have been set and what to?
As long as those have been set and the FTR is higher than 2 meg they should be able to log a line test providing everything's been checked.
Hello again It has now been around 3 months since i first connected to Orange broadband. I have found out today that if i use the test plug under the master plug my Noise margin (dB) went up to 17.9 suggesting i need my internal wireing looked at?
I also found out that i must be on some sort of max service for my uplad rate is higher than it was when i was on tiscali my upload rate is 381kbs and download still 1.8 -2.0 mb.
Hi yes i have done this thats why i was inside the master plug int he first place i have also done this on all the extentions!!
1. Does my upload speed tell us i am on max broadband of some kind even though my download is still ip profile 2
2. do u think i should have my wireing looked at?
Thanks Gerry

An upload speed of over 288kbps shows you are on an ADSL Max connection and not LLU.

I'd say you probably don't really need to, it was only a relatively small amount it went up by after all.
Interleave is on so the system thinks there's some sort of instability on the line. Ideally as long as the sync stays high it should go up automatically after 3 days, that is unless the profile is stuck which you'd need to get Orange to raise as a fault.
Hello thanks for your replys i belive i have a stuck profile for i have always syncd at 7616 never any less so i have emailed Orange. What do u think they will do about it will they fix it straight away or will it take weeks or more??
Well they'd need to submit a fault so the profile can be unstuck, providing it does show as stuck. They can't normally do that over email though so you may need to call them.
It's more to do with making sure of all the details are confirmed and correct for putting through a fault. Much easier that way than emails going back and forth over some time as new details and requests come to light.
Hello here is an update on the problem
Phones Orange last thursday they did a woosh test then said yes i should be getting 8mb then send a complaint to BT i was asked to phone back the next day to say if my speed has increased.
I phoned back the next day to say my speed had not increased the man on the phone this time did not know if my msr and snr had been set where as the man the day before said they hadent he said there was an email from BT saying that slow connection becuse two many people on the interent!!! The man then sent a reply saying it is BT problem and told me to phone back on wednesday it is now wednesday and i still have had no speed increase!!!
Well as long as the MSR has been set at roughly 2.5 meg or more then they should be able to raise a fault about the profile being on 2 meg all the time.
Hi after almost 2 weeks of phoneing Orange i have still not got anywhere on monday last week they addmitted there was a line fault and that BT are currently working on it i phoned up every day since and they still give me the same awnser and i ask if they know when the work will be done they say no so it is now a week later and still no 8mb connection!!!! what on earth is going on are BT lieing to Orange or are Orange lieing to me and how to get this sorted out its just stupid!!
