Nothing but trouble first the live box, which was eventually replaced by the speedtouch 330, after 3months i was finallyconnected, everything was fantastic. (Down on the task bar it was saying on connection 8.1MBPS and the speedtouch diagnostic icon on the task bar had 3 green boxes & a purple one in the bottom RH corner )
The kids then managed to break the PC, we had to reinstall everything, back to the original set up,( its running windows XP). I reinstalled/unistalled/reinstalled the speedtouch, using the install CD only this time the speed is saying 2.2MBPS and the speedtouch diagnostic icon on the task bar has 3 yellow boxes and a purple one in the RH corner. I have looked in the documentation for the speedtouch it says it means DSL Synchronisation pending, I rang Orange on several occasions they say they have done a line test but it was inconclusive, they told me to type something in to the run dialog box which changed nothing,Technical said to download 8meg upgrade. Still no joy! Just What is my problem ??
Ok, the modem should normally have 2 solid green lights. In this case the ADSL light is probably flashing meaning it's having trouble establishing a connection to the exchange, also when you try and connect you'll probably get a 0680 error.
If the ADSL light isn't flashing then that would point to a problem when you reinstalled the drivers. For that uninstall, unplug the modem, shutdown the pc and after starting back up try reinstalling again.
However if the light is solid and is actually connecting ok, just slower than before, this again points partly to drivers as the disgnostic icon is showing the wrong info and could mean deeper problems.
If the ADSL light is flashing then it either means something's different when you reinstalled or there happens to be a problem on the line.
Thanks ever so much for getting back to me I was getting to the stage where i felt like pulling my hair out. Broadband is definitely not my strong point ! I have 2 solid green lights, i dont get 680 error code. i have tried unistalling & reinstalling as below.
I get connected okay but the speed says 2.2MBPS never any more and the diagnostic icon still shows 3 yellows and a purple, where do i go from here ?? What should i try next, I cant afford to keep ringing tech support on there 0870 number, and if i dial 150 or 550 from my mobile they just send me back to the 0870 number because they don't deal with modems. Any info or ideas are very very gratefuly received, beleive me!
Hi Wise,
Thanks all ideas are gratefuly received..I have downloaded the eightmegupgrade it made no difference, I had 8 megs back in January before the PC broke, so the modem was capable of it. Any other ideas i could try?
Hi Elhana,Thankyou for the link to try, ive been to the link (BT) this is what comes back-
Test error
Unexpected result received when querying the network to find your services connection details. Please try again shortly, but if this problem persists raise the issue with your service provider. Ive tried it several times and get the same result.
I have been also been on the Orange problem speedtest mentioned on this site as you were asking about upload speed this is what i get back-
Download Speed: 1484 kbps (185.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 220 kbps (27.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Tested at about 3.30 in the afternoon
I have no idea what any of the above means? , im sure it means alot more to you than me.
That result suggests you could be on an LLU connection, although I could be wrong. The BT speedtest can be a little tempremental as it's used so much these days.
It could be a big coincidence with the reinstall and that you've been moved onto it at that time, or it could just be the reinstall has messed something up preventing the speed going higher. Personally I lean towards the drivers due to how they're not acting right but it could be either really.
If you get in touch with Orange you could ask if you've been migrated to LLU, email would be an easy option for that as no need to pay for a call then.
Thanks Elhana,
Thats a good idea, better to try email, less frustrating too! Is there a particular Orange email address for broadband that i should use ?
