After 2 months of being messed about and spending hours on hold I'm asking you guys...

Basically I have an Apple Power book running OS 10.4 - I'm trying to connect to Orange with their standard speedtouch USB modem.

I run the drivers CD - it goes throught the install process, restarts and.... nothing...

The only prog that seems to install is Diagnostics, when I try to configure the network it doesnt give me the option of using the speedtouch.

Orange have now sent out a new CD - samething happens, I've tried it many times with the same effect.

Also I've only ever had one flashing red light show up on the modem.

Anyone had similar problems? The tech phone are a waste of time and I just cant' sit on hold anylonger!!

Thanks for reading - however this isnt a wireless problem - it just the fact that the CD and / or modem dont seem to be installing or functioning.

I just cant bare the thought of spending another 30 - 40 mins on hold then another 5 spelling my user name and address to the chap that answers in India!! Rolling Eyes

Is it an intel based MAC? If it is then the drivers won't work as there aren't any for intel Macs.

Or you could try downloading the drivers from the speedtouch site.

Make sure you've updated your MAC to the latest version of Tiger.

The latest version has re-written drivers / connection settings for USB modems.

I know it will mean using someone else's connection but it may just solve your problems.

Don't use USB modem's with macs they don't work, the drivers are rubbish.
You are better getting a, ethernet based modem, they all work.
I use a netgear dg834g, very easy to set up too.

USB modems aren't ideal for any computer be they MAC's or otherwise. They are however simple and cheap as they don't need external power.

I agree though, ethernet is a better option all round and ethernet modems/routers can be pretty cheap if you look around.
