i am having trouble getting onto the fpt site on sitebuilder. when i try it says it is for Orange members only (which i am). is there a general problem or just me as i haven't had problems before
Hi I haven't been able to update my site since Christmas and was told by Orange in the last week that there is still no fix date for the problem as there isn't for email problems either. Because of ongoing issues Orange have offered to terminate my 18 month contract 12 months early and I leave on Friday 23rd March Yippeeeeeee peace at last.
I was told by Orange a couple of days ago that if you have a dynamic IP address its impossible to get onto FTPMysite........so basically .........TOUGH !
Very helpful !
At the present , the only way I can carry out updates to my pages is by going in via dial-up , using exactly the same machine and settings , but disconnecting broadband and using the old modem.
Its a fix , but by no means satisfactory....and of course costs !
Orange also told me that they do not offer phone support for Mysite issues as the facility is provided by a third party.
As an aside , the ubiquitous "No Timescale" comment is a load of £%$8&%$s.....they have known about my connection problems for over two months.they have been escalated to the UK Exec who keep making the same excuse.
Basically , it seems that Orange have oversold and under invested.as a result they cannot possibly supply the service they are advertising....and yet they continue to advertise.
Its similar to a garage selling the same car to half a dozen people,,,,then after they have handed over the cash telling them............"Oh by the way , we didnt tell you this , but you will have to share the car with five others.....they have paid full price for it too ! "
In any other industry this would be seen to be dubious practice at best.....and their licence to trade would be withdrawn!

That is completely contradictory. Dialup uses dynamically assigned IP addresses so that explanation is wrong.
It could be the address ranges aren't upto date so denying access because it doesn't think you're on Orange but that doesn't make much sense either because it would be an easy thing to update and fix.

Lets say you call a garage and tell them your car isn't working, nothing more because you're not familiar with cars. You then ask how long it will take to fix, how can they answer when they don't know what the problem is? Or how about your car just breaks down every couple of hundred miles, the garage look at it, can't find anything wrong but after that it works fine again until the same thing happens?
It doesn't excuse not fixing the problem but sometimes problems can be exteremely hard to find and correct be they connection issues or access to the FTP servers.

I've never been able to make sitebuilder work. I registered to use it but when I try to connect with FTP software I'm not recognised. If I use their sitebuilder tools I can create a web page and upload files to it from my PC but when I try to revisit the page I cannot see it although it still exists because if I try to re-create the missing page sitebuilder tells me it already exists. I have given up trying to make it work and have reverted back to my old freeserve.co.uk web site although that only allows me 15meg.
Elhana , its quite simple...and to use your analogy......they are continuing to sell broken cars they can't fix !
The system just cannot handle the traffic it already has , never mind adding new customers.
Orange should have the integrity to halt all new customer advertising until it has solved its " problem"
Your explanation re Mysite and IP addresses

is one I have voiced to them on a number of occassions.I reckon there is a batch of addresses that MySite just doesn't recognise...simple as that !
This has been a frequent occurrence, I can't get access to my web site either.
Orange/Wanadoo?/Freeserve have been going downhill since I joined them, first with freeserve dial up the speeds and the frequent disconnection's at peak hours where ridiculous.
Then I moved to broadband which was fine for a while on Wanadoo, now with Orange we have extremely slow speeds, web page retrieval problems all again at peak hours.
I didn't see in the small print "your service may be crap during peak hours".
These problems are basically due to lack of investment. Well I have been with this company from the start almost, I think it's time to move.
I was afraid to move incase I got something worse well guess what you can't get any worse, just look at the surveys.
First post, and provoked precisely by my inability to access FTP Mysite to update my site. I can get into Sitebuilder, but that's not where my site is! Why does Sitebuilder recognize I'm an Orange member, but FTP Mysite does not?
As there's no telephone support, I've emailed Orange response twice in the last 2-3 weeks for help, but I haven't had a reply. I'm seriously looking around for another ISP, having been an old Freeserve customer. Is there really no-one I can write to, to get some kind of redress?

This is exactly my current experience!
I'm pleased to find that I'm not alone (thanks OrangeProblems.co.uk), frustrated that there is no apparent solution.
I did get a response to an email sent to their customer support; however, it appears to be manned by blithering idiots.
Well, I finally got a reply from Mysite Response and predictably, they hadn't read what I'd written and pointed me to an irrelevant article in the 'knowledge' [sic] database. I pointed this out to them, and also sent them the link to this thread, and their latest email said they were forwarding the problem to the Customer Action Team. If they haven't said anything by Monday, I'm migrating. *waves in the direction of Zen...

I switched to Zen over a year ago and they've provided an excellent service. The difference between Zen's customer support and Orange's is almost incredible. After all the hassle and stupidity I experienced with Orange, dealing with Zen was literally a joy.

This fixed the problem for me, posted it in the other thread on this subject :
I was having the same problems, working not working days / even more days in between, during a long spell of not working and getting the message - Sorry this service is exclusive to Orange UK members- I thought hold on this speed touch 330 modem I have never updated the software for it, never needed to, well went to the official web site and downloaded the latest software for it, after installation Orange now recognises me as a customer again! works perfect and can now ftp mysite just like like in the old days!
One small glitch after installation of the updating software, windows ( xp ) wanted the drivers for the now newly recognised usb device, lucky enough i still had the wanadoo cd, so popped it in and navigated to one of the folders and bingo windows found and installed the drivers, a good point is i didn't need to re input user name etc because this info remained available to the modem.
