I have the livebox and live in France. My emails were running perfectly well until around 2pm yesterday. I have various email addresses across Three seperate servers, Lycos, Sitelutions and Orange.
At around 2pm my PC stopped sending any emails except for my @orange.fr email which is sending perfectly well. I called Orange after re-installing my email box as outlook 2007 on my Vista laptop, the other is an XP Pc running outlook express. Both PC's stopped sending at the same time. ORange tell me that is must be that both other servers are down ie lycos and sitelutions..hmm. I CAN RECIEVE email on all accounts, just can't send, and It is a big co-incidence that they both stopped at the same time. Orange just gave up and said test the laptop and pc using another modem...ok, how do i do that??????
Basically, I wondered if anyone else had same problem ie emails stop sending for no reason if they are not @orange.fr...Is there a fix? and why did it stop so suddenly? I will send another email to the CEO of Orange in France, his PA called me last time I had a problem so you never know. In the meantime, please help, I just launched a website and I need email!!!
Here in the UK on an Orange connection you can't send to external email servers on the default port of 25 as, at least with Outlook Express it gets gets an error telling you to use Orange's server.
It's possible the same system has just come in over there but there's no way I can really tell.

Hello fuelmyblog
To change the port settings (these instructions are for Outllok 2003 - the new version, 2007, should be very similar, if not identical):
Open Outlook
Click on Tools >> Email Accounts
Choose "view or change existing email accounts" - Click Next
Select the email account you want to change (left click once, highlighting it blue).
Now click the "Change..." button
Click the "More Settings..." button
Click the tab that says "Advanced"
You will see (among the info on this dialogue box) "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" - change this setting - try using "587" (this usually works - depends on your email server really.
I cannot believe that it took me all day to fix that!!
Thanks so much, you do not know how helpful that was, shame Orange in France do not know this!! They told me to contact the host, I did say it is an Orange issue as my mails are on five servers all over the world and all stopped straight away at the same time!!!!
If you have a blog, please check out my site and add it, my way of thanks!
Was success with one of the lycos accounts, the others still won't send (I have 3x lycos and 1x sitelutions), are there any other port numbers I could try? A list would be great and I can keep trying until the mail is sent!

Hi fuelmyblog
Glad you have had some success...
You may need to check out the support database with your email providers and see what they recommend...
Port 587 is available over the UK Orange Network and is usually allowed for smtp email.
It may be that you also have to authenticate the sending of emails... To do this...
Follow the above instructions up to clicking "Advanced Settings"
Then, rather than choosing the advanced tab, choose "Outgoing Server" tab
Check the box that says "My outgoing server (smtp) requires authentication"
Then make sure "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" is checked"
This MAY work!
As I said at the top of this post, you should really check with Lycos and sitelutions FAQs - search for "smtp settings" or something along the lines of "Why do I get a '550 Relay Not Permitted' error mesage when sending mail"
