We are experiencing strange problems regarding our ADSL Orange internet connection. Our speed is 2mps and we are currently using the Inventel Orange Livebox. During the day, everything usually works fine, although after 6:00pm the internet connection mostly drops and the @ light flashes slowly. On the status it says PPP server down. Sometimes this can be remedied by connecting the speedtouch modem to 'jumpstart' the connection, then plugging in the Livebox, but even still sometimes the speedtouch cant connect and sticks on 'veryfying username and password' and attemps this a couple of time before giving up (I can't remember the error message at this time). Sometimes the livebox may reconnect its self straight after the disconnection or about an hour or 2 later. What's Strange like i said is this only seems to happen at night and not through the day.
Hope you can help
Thanks Turbo8880
P.S. We are using the Huddersfield exchange and this problem has been happening for about a week.[/b]
I suffered with this for a few months. My connection would usually go down in the evening and then wouldn't be restored for days.
Like you, flashing @ symbol, 'PPP Server Down' etc etc.
It became clear Orange could not fix the problem and provided absolutely awful service, so I have now left them and joined a proper ISP. If you can, I'd do the same!

Thanks for your reply as it is really appreciated, although changing ISP maybe the last resort but we're going to take that into consideration if this persists.
Thanks again
probably will persist. i too have same problems. to stabalise my connection they have reduced my download speed to 0.5mb!! this has helped but it is too slow. i cannot get anyone to increase my speed now. i have received a MAC code from Orange and i'm off to Sky.
all was great here until Orange got involved. freeserve, then wanadoo was never a problem for me. it's the lethal combination of Orange and livebox. funnily enough, when my livebox goes down and it says ppp server down, my old modem connects to the line straight away, albeit at a slow 0.2mb download.
read on this forum - most people report that between 5pm to 11pm their speeds are massively down. it would appear Orange does this deliberately because they can't cope with the increased traffic at these times.
good luck if you're staying put.
otherwise would the last one out turn the lights off please!!!

Thanks for your reply Tonygold, For the time being we intend to stay with Orange and hope that they are able to sort out the problem. Like you we had no problems with Freeserve or Wanadoo. It is only recently that we have been experiencing disconnection problems - in fact after they increased our speed from 1mps to 2mps. And getting rid of the livebox would not sort out the problem entirely as sometimes we can't even establish a connection with the speedtouch modem!
