I have a broadband account at home. My husband and I each have laptops and run Outlook Express. He has a .freeserve.co.uk email address and I have a .fsnet.co.uk email address.
Yesterday, my husband received all MY emails on HIS laptop. I didn't receive any of his emails.
How on ***** can this happen if we each our own mail account set up on our own laptops to only receive emails from our own email addresses? It's never happened before and neither of us have changed the settings on our laptops.
My sinical side wonders whether this an "Orange" problem, rather than a set up issue with our laptops. Anyone else experienced this and what can I do to ensure it doesn't happen again.
Receiving someone else's email and the chances of happening to hit the account that your partner uses is absolutely astronomical. Actually I've never really heard of someone getting another accounts real email, only the odd mis-addressed, spammed and spoofed emails. It's simply not going to happen so I'd say it's more likely to have been a glitch or doing something wrong on the PC itself.
Your Husband has received your mails because your user account has been set up, or turned on, on his pc. Every PC can have an unlimited number of email accounts including the accounts of any other person.
All you need is to go to the email accounts section of Outlook or Outlook Express and put in the user name and password of the other email account that you want to receive.
This means one of four things has happened:
1) You husband has started an account with your user name and password. (is he spying on you?)
2) He has copied information from your computer and inadvertently copied your email settings (Is he spying on you?)
3) You have used his pc at some point with your email account and he has somehow switched it back on (normally this works with outlook, not outllok express) (Were you spying on him?)
4) Somehow you have switched on auto-forwarding on your pc (or at the Orange web-site), to send him a copy of all your incoming emails. (Do you want to make him jealous?)
