I've had a look on this forum but don't seem to find anything useful to help me...
I've been on a 2meg connection with Orange for a while and was out of contract. I upgraded to their unlimited package for the speed increase. That was on the 19th Feb and i've still only got 2meg.
When I signed-up I checked on their website and BT and it said 6-8meg.
I phoned Orange today and they've now told me according to their records, I can only get 2meg!! I'm now a bit stuffed as i'm locked into their contract. Ideally i'd like to resolve the speed rather than go through the aggro of trying to get out of the contract (I spoke to Ofcom today).
What it seems to me is that they've not got the correct data for my line or something... My livebox stats read:
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 23.3
Attenuation (dB) : 35.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 6080
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 2272 288
Surely "Attainable download rate" means I can get 6meg (which i'd be more than happy with, compared to my 2.2meg?
What can I do now? Can I send this report to Orange technical support for them to look at? Can I contact BT at all? It seems that Customer Services quote that I can only get 2meg according to their records, so there is nothing more they can do! Very annoying! I'm only 1.4km from the exchange and my neighbour who is on the same telegraph pole who is with BT can get 6meg!
SamKnows reports:
According to BT Wholesale, your line should be able to support a 6Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max.
Been there got the T Shirt mate, your wasting your time... Orange can fix none of the problems in here.
You will only get the normal fob offs , excuses, lies and " you have to call Technical Support" crap.
Give them a call ......... see how far you get....
They will offer you a line test........ actually probably at least 4 or 5 line tests before they tell you there is a problem lol....however, they dont know how to resolve any of the problems, they dont have the knowledge.
I was without a connection for almost 3 weeks before i asked for a MAC which i was REFUSED. Cancelled my account and they took money from my account for something that didnt work and they could not fix. So its slightly different for you cos your (apparently) getting a 2 meg connection, i suggest you check this with one of the many speedtest sites cos your probably not.
Good Luck mate cos your gonna need LOTS of it to get Orange to actually do anything to resolve your problem.
my exchange doesn't have Orange LLU - is that good in that there might be a chance that something can be done?
How come my neighbour can get 6meg (with BT) and I can only get 2meg (with Orange) when we're both off the same telegraph pole and no Orange LLU? Seems mad?
Your uploaf speed of 288 indicates you are on oranges LLU. This means that Orange have installed their own equipment in your exchange. Orange have a recognised problem with yhis with most people getting a maximum spred of around 2.7mb.
Your neighbour will get a better spred as they are using BT's equipment on ADSL Max.
288kbps is the same on ADSL and LLU meaning you can't rely on it to show if it's an LLU connection or not. If there's been an upgrade to a higher speed and it's supposedly gone through then it usually means it's LLU but again you can't be sure. There could have been a problem with the change or it simply might not have been done even though the systems say it has.
Either way you'd really need to speak to Orange about it.
Thanks for all the replies. I assume Orange would be able to tell me if they've installed LLU in my exchange?

Any tips on what I actually need to ask for when I speak to Orange again? When i've spoken to them before, i've found it's like talking to a brick wall - they just tell me that it's 2meg max and that's it. Nothing I can do. Is there anything I can actually ask them to do or check to get this sorted out?
"APPARENTLY" and i say apparently cos not everyone appears to get this email but if you were upgraded to LLU they are "SUPPOSED" to send you an email confirming this....before they do it AND after they do it, i think its a case of them trying to cover themselves before they give you a s**t service!
I suggest if they have put you on LLU and its not working demand to be put back in IPStream.
Their LLU does not work... already admitted by Orange on a number of occasions, their """""customer service dept"""" even told me it was CRAP lol so you aint got a lot of hope that its gonna work mate, but believe me they will still try to get money out of you cos they are robbing b****rds !
My best suggestion would be to ask for a MAC code and migrate to an ISP that actually works and cares.
