Had no replies in other section so will try here...
Hi, first time post. Posting for a relative that has been without BB for 2 weeks now. Usual India/reset/BT stuff, but with no effect. What I would like to know from the experts here is that currently when i do a factory reset on the Livebrick, the Noise Margin is 29dB (atten = 51dB, 1 Mb link BTW). It says synchronised on the status. I then enter the username/passord and press validate. It then comes back saying PPP server down, and the Noise Margin is now only -2dB !! The attenuation figure is still 51dB.
Can someone tell me if the noise figure value prior to validate actually means anything, or can it only be used after?
We have had a lot of rain lately and it is one of the possible problems. Incidentily the BB has been in use (fairly reliably) since mid last year. I believe the exchange (Waterlooville) is currently on IPSTREAM, but Orange said that it was going to LLU yesterday. I checked the box again today, still have the problem.
Any advise gratefully received.
Would the fluctuating noise figure suggest that the line is at fault, or could it still be the Livebox or even the exchange?
I'd ignore the noise margin details for the moment.
It can be hard to tell where the fault is in these sorts of cases as it can be the livebox itself, line or a problem at the exchange. Usually though the exchange is what I'd guess for starters.
