Today i installed my BE modem after being with Orange back to when they was freeserve in 1999.I live 2kmh from exchange plus my line isn't very good yet syncs at 12mb and i get these speeds primetime 6pm uk time:
Very very good so far, used to get 300-3000ms ping in world of warcraft past few weeks which is diabolical, now i get 30-100ms.Hope you guys do the same and realise what a useless company Orange is due to their p**s poor technical support.
Right now Be is the company I'm looking to move to, their services seem bang on (on paper) and this seems to be confirmed with happy people here and on other boards.
However, I'll wait a while, they are pushing to populate exchanges with their LLU equipment and relatively speaking their customer based is small. I wonder, once this customer base mushrooms and more exchanges get enabled it'll turn into another Orange. I've already been taken for a mug by Orange, it's not going to happen again.
Looking at their BE's FAQ there was not only some very interesting info, but also they aren't asking for 12 month contract- only 3 months notice (For their unlimited service). This tells me they are quite confident in coming up with the goods.

Can I get Be?
We provide service through a process called local loop unbundling (LLU), which means that we rent space in a BT exchange, buy our own equipment, create our own backhaul network, and connect BT’s copper ‘last mile’ network to your premises. Our service is therefore only available if your current premises is connected to a BT exchange in which we’ve ‘unbundled’ (i.e. put our own equipment).
When you use our availability checker online, we check as to whether Be provides service at your exchange and some line characteristics that will indicate whether we can place an order to upgrade your BT line to add our service.
You cannot order Be on a phone line that is currently supplied using ISDN, Fibre, Telephone Switch, TPON, or BT’s FeatureNet product. In these cases, you will need to order a new BT analogue phone line in order to get our ludicrously fast service.
Nice explanation to LLU. Clearly the only thing Orange can blame BT for its appalling LLU is "BT’s copper ‘last mile’ network"...

Could the exchange be filled up in my area?
Yes, it is possible but very unlikely. We will continue to monitor our resources and when we notice that capacity in a certain exchange is becoming limited, we will usually order more lines. It is possible that BT may run out of space in the exchange and if this happens, we would not be able to fulfil any additional orders.
If one was going to draw comparisons with Orange, this is one of the reasons for poor speeds- Orange not wanting to order more lines, instead just cap users, that way you squeeze more people the exchange
Pathetic. I wouldn't suggest Orange to my worst enemy.
The guy i spoke to at BT uses it himself, and he says it's a 50:1 ratio. He says during peak he never has had it drop to over half it's non-peak connection speed, and it's £8 cheaper. Bye Bye £31 Wanadoo wireless&talk 30gb usage upto 8mb. Hello BT upto 8mb Unlimited.
As ive been saying for some time now Orange are not interested in anyones problems, this is obvious due to the lack of solutions they have provided and problems they have fixed ... all they are interested in is peoples MONEY! they proved that by taking money from my credit card without my permission, provided NO service for weeks then expected me to accept it. I just wonder how many people they have stung ?
how many people have to pay for something they arent getting?
how many people at Orange agree with what i am saying but are too frightened to admit it?
Good riddance Orange ... you spoilt a good service and customer base built up by Freeserve and Wanadoo and made it crap !
Well done, lets hope you get what you deserve.
One final thought.......
Close your "tech support" (sorry cant help laughing when i say that) close your "Customer Service" dept because both dont know what the phrases mean. You treat people like s**t
1. Did you transfer with a MAC?
2. How long did it take?
3. Did you have any problem getting Orange to stop billing you/forcing you to wait 30 days?
1.Yep, went through fine.
2.3 days for MAC to come, 8-10 days til they activated line after MAC code was given, can't remember exact amount but your Orange adsl line will cease on migration day for only 30mins then you are back online but with BE.
3.Orange have always given me billing problems, if they do still after migration i'll cancel my account straight away completely if i see anymore taken out of bank and perhaps inform british trade standards.
By the way migrate to BE before march 31st and you do not pay connection fee.To be honest i can't see BE ended up like Orange at the moment having spoken to their customer support Three times i am very impressed.(i know a lot about pcs myself but do not know the internet side much however i've dealt with an awful lot of companies in my life via phones and BE are very good at communicating with you it seems.)
Here's offpeak speed:
Remember my line syncs at 12mb too so this is very good.
