I’ve recently been “upgraded” to LLU and am now getting a download speed of 2.7, this being a drop from ~4, however my main problem is the constant disconnections I’m now experiencing (error 680 no dial tone, followed by error 743 - although I can normally reconnect with 10/20secs). My modem is the old Alcatel stingray and the driver updates mentioned in other posts aren’t relevant to this type, would upgrading to a Livebox solve the constant line disconnections? I know it won’t help with the speed issue but to be honest if I could get a stable connection back I could live quite easily with 2.7.
Well im on LLU, and i have an old wanadoo livebox and i still get disconnected all the time, longest ive been connected is about 3 hours 20 mins, so i dont really think a livebox will help, as far as im aware there are no differences between the Orange and wanadoo liveboxes, other than cosmetic features.
Ok peak time access so the margin may be a touch lower than the rest of the day.
Ok firstly definitely an LLU connection, margin is on the lowest limit so from that the speed isn't likely to go much higher. You'd really need to check this a few times to see if the figures vary, the ones above are the main ones you need to check. Would be worth checking it when you notice any speed variations.
Is there anything there that would indicate why the line is disconnecting so often? It’s been driving me round the bend this evening – also, after mentioning that the speed has been sitting at 2.7 since “upgrading” guess what’s been happening the last 2 nights, yep slower and slower to the point, at times, of being non-existent.
Thanks for the help so far!
Well it's the margin which makes a big difference with disconnections. 6 is the widely agreed lowest limit for stable connections although in some cases it's not enough and extra room has to be left to keep it stable.
The best way to check is to note down those stats a few times at different points in the day and see if they vary much. Downstream, receive attenuation and receive margin and the only ones you really need for this.
