I did as you suggested and followed Step 1 in the article and this didn't work, just repeated the could not create messge. I tried to access the instructions in Step 2 for XP but the hyperlink doesn't work. Are these available anywhere else?
Can you offer any other suggestions, other than ditching Orange and going elsewhere?
I'm told that sometimes these modems need software downloading called firmware that updates them. Is this the case with the speedtocuh 330 modem? If it is how to I get hold of the software to download? Alternatively will Orange provide a replacement modem?
The 330's don't need or use firmware, that's almost exclusively the domain of routers which have a lot more to do.
They'll usually replace the modem no problem if it's considered faulty. Usually that error is just down to drivers.
Tried getting the drivers from...
http://www.speedtouch.co.uk/co...ductID=471 ?
I tried what you said but still could not get the driver to work. Should I save the zip file to a bootable CD and use that? I wasn't sure what to do with all the zip files. Please help?

Right click on the zipped file after you have downloaded it and choose extract all click browse and choose your desktop its easier then u can install the updated driver from there

I've extracted the zipped files and then double clicked the one called setup and it goes through the process of installing the driver (i think). When it's finished I restart the PC but still cannot get on to the internet.

If u use Internet Explorer open a browser click tools>internet options>connections tab highlight your modem and check always dial my default connection if it isnt already checked then click default to make it ur default if all that fails its gotta be at Oranges end

I have to disagree about that, it very much depends on if there is a different error message or code.
If you unplug the modem from the phone line you remove all connection to Orange and it should give an error 0680 usually, can vary between a couple of different ones sometimes. If you can't get that sort of error or still get the cannot create entry then either there's a deeper problem on the PC or the modem has a fault.
If it's still the same original message then try the article again for updating drivers, if that fails again then I'd call them and ask for a replacement modem so you can then find out the cause for sure.
