Usual background - lovely stable 2mb connection with Freeserve/Wanadoo, got shifted to LLU by Orange a couple of weeks ago and now get generally crap speeds and occasional drop-outs. Having read all the experiences here I decided I'm not pointlessly messing about with their tech support, I'm just going to move to another ISP. The ISP I want to move to will accept an LLU MAC, although I have to pay a setup fee but should at least get continuous service.
So, phoned customer support today to get my MAC, spoke to a lady in India who confirmed my details and asked why I wanted to leave. As soon as I mentioned LLU she apologised and put me through to a UK centre.
Chap in the UK centre asked me who I was moving to and of course started making offers trying to tempt me to stay. I again mentioned LLU and said I wouldn't stay if it was free, so he soon gave up and said he'd send me a MAC. My choice of having it sent to home or my fsnet.co.uk email address. I chose the latter so I can get out ASAP.
He said I'd get an email within a few hours. No sign yet.
So... assuming I'm going to have to jump through f**kin hoops to actually get my MAC, what have people found to be the best approach? Is there a good phone no. or email address to contact? For those who have already left Orange, how did you get your MAC, and how long did it take?
Orange, and all other ISP s too, CANNOT BY LAW hold back your MAC code.
As from 14th Feb 07 all ISP s must give a MAC when required by customers.
Ofcom enforce this so ring Orange and say you will report them if they haven't given you it in 5 days which is the maximum time allowed by the same law.
Boosh , can i ask who you are going to as i want to leave but struggling for anyone to accept llu MAC code
Hi mancunian, I'm hoping to go to UKFSN, one of several Entanet resellers. All of the Entanet lot consistently come out top in customer satisfaction polls, and I particularly like UKFSN as they support the free software movement with student and developer grants. I'm looking at the Home Max 30 £19.99 8mb service (I'm paying £27.99 at the moment for about 600k with Orange). According to their site they'll accept the LLU code and sort out a cease and re-provide service, but you do have to pay the £40ish setup fee. Fingers crossed. Good luck with yours.
Oh yeah, another thing I like about them is the monthly rolling contract - no tying you in for 12 months and fining you if you try to leave, if you're not happy you can instantly move elsewhere. To me that suggests a company secure with the quality of their service.
