I'm no legal expert, but I'm sure there must be a law that covers companies providing a resonable service. The majority of people suffering the LLU nightmare have been long term Orange customers. They have been provided with a fast reliable service for months if not years using BT's ADSL equipment. Then out of the blue Orange replace BT's equipment with there own and everyone suffers a major drop in connection speed. Orange realise there is a problem, but still continue with the roll out? That just doesn't make sense?
My personal experience showed my solid reliable 6 meg connection drop to betwwen .2 meg & 2.7 meg with an average of 2.0 meg taken over 77 random samples. That's a 1/3 drop in actual speed. I can't remember the last time I went to Tesco's to get some bread only to find that the loaf was 1/3 of it's previous size but still the same price? However, if that did happen I would have a choice not to buy/pay. I wasn't given a choice about this upgrade, I was told it would happen and could give me faster speeds even though Orange knew that wasn't true. I'm lucky, after constant complaining I've been allowed to leave my contract early. I hope Orange do the decent thing and allow all you guys out too!

To be honest I don't even think the advertising "Up to 8 meg" is legal, because I don't think ANYONE has achieved such speeds, so to advertise this possibility is a lie.
Of course it's legal! The operative words are "up to" which in this statement, for the benefit of those who don't understand plain engish means any figure between 0 and 8.
I'm with Peop on this, if you are on Max yes it is an up to 8mb service.
If you are on LLU it is not. On LLU there are 2 groups those on 608 and those who get up to 2.7. The reason for these speeds is that Orange have capped them, there is no way they are going to get anywhere near 8. Orange know this and should not be advertising LLU as an up to 8 service.

I know what "Up to" means and I am aware that this statement is legal. What I am not sure you understood what I was getting at is Orange have stated a limit of speeds attainable between 0-8, when in fact NO ONE gets an 8 meg speed be it ADSLMAX or LLU, their upper limit should be 6 or 7.
Following your logic, Orange could actually advertise "Up to 24megs" or even "Up to 100gigs", now do you understand what I am getting at? If they did this, they could get away with it- as they are already. [/quote]
I was outside of a 12 month contract, so after some effort I obtained an LLU MAC code and Orange are no longer my ISP. After being upgraded from 1mbps connection to upto 8mbps (in reality downgraded to 608kbps), I can now download at around 7mbps after changing ISP.
If you are no longer contractually bound to Orange I can't see the sense in putting up with them, assuming you can find another ISP that will take an LLU MAC code.
