I have for Three weeks now since I was upgraded which I didnt ask for suffered with it disconnecting and no dial tone and numerous other error messages. I connect then it drops connection, and constantly phoned Tech Support. I phoned today to ask for the MAC code and was told that they only have an LLU MAC CODE and was asked who I was changing my Broadband to. I said I didnt know but I just wanted to move to someone else to be told that there arent many providers that use the LLU system. What does this mean? I am know techy, they said I was on IPC and then transferred to LLU? Can someone advise what they are talking about and can I transfer to another provider?
Sorry to hear you've fallen victim to this disgrace called Orange.
Like thousands of others (not just on this site) I had my nightmare too but am long free of them and very happy now with my broadband.
LLU is a name for equpiment that Orange put into telephone exchanges to work with their systems.
It has been such a shambles it's unreal.
What they're saying to you is their LLU MAC code will only be accepted yb a company who can switch over with this equipment.
Some companies do accept these, like Idnet.
I'm with them, 6 months now, and they are absolutely fantastic. 100% reliable connection, English speak customer support who care, 1 month contracts.
As from 14th Feb 07 no broadand provider can hold bac a MAC code, by law-
" New rules
After 14 February all net service firms must use the MAC system and supply these codes within five days of being asked for them.
Also net suppliers are no longer allowed to charge for issuing a MAC code or to levy any fee on the switching process.
"A charge is an impediment to switching," said a spokesman for Ofcom, "and no obstacles should be put in the way of customers once they are out of contract."
The spokesman said that in the past migration codes have been withheld from consumers because of financial wrangles between suppliers.
Ofcom will fine firms that stop customers switching
From 14 February this too is ruled out as a reason for refusing to issue a MAC. "
When you speak to Orange quote this new law and that you will report them to OFCOM if they do not give you a MAC code.
You're not forced to go to any particualr company but I strongly advise you to review companies from customers' feedback. I know Zen are aslo excellent.
You can also cancel your broadband with Orange and wait 10 days for the LLU to be taken off your line.
They also have to to do this in that time period or OFCOM can force them to.
Please do not let Orange rob and lie to you a day more than necessary.
They are an absolute disgrace
Well as expected, no call from Orange and couldnt get onto computer for the whole of the day, it wasnt a no dial tone this time but it was showing connected but couldnt get into any webpages because saying I was offline. Grhhh. Today I phone and cancel my account.

You should have insisted on a MAC code their is plenty of ISPs who accept LLU MAC codes seems Orange agents are still telling lies as cosmic said they CANNOT refuse you a MAC since the 14th of February Orange seem too just want to make it as awkward as possible to change to another provider i had the same experience till i reported them my MAC came within 2 hours.
