My livebox was installed initially 2 months ago on a laptop via ethernet cable, and now connects wirelessly. No problems there.
However, I'm now trying to connect a PC wirelessly to use elsewhere in the house. I can connect initially via ethernet cable, but as soon as this is disconected and I connect solely via USB Wirelss device, I lose the ability to see internet pages. (My wilress connection is enabled, but I can't see anything).
Over the last month I've tried changing IP address settings, installing/reinstalling wireless device (Belkin), firewalls, WEP key, Windows Zero Configuration, and checking all settings on the livebox from my laptop.
I've also spent hours and hours on hold to Orange, without any success at getting through. Also, since getting broadband, the quality of the phoneline has deteriorated. Is there anything that can be one?
Any suggestions gratefully received before my livebox comes to a premature end....!
Belkin adapters are notorious for this kind of thing, they have there own software to configure the connection and as a result they over-ride windows connecting it as windows is a submissive program.
My advice for this problem is to look in your system tray for the belkin icon (thats where your computer clock is) right click it and enable wireless zero config, this allows windows to onfigure the connection and the belkin uses drivers only, if this isnt here then phone belkin ask them how to do this.
From there you go to control panel -> network connections and right click wireless network connection and select properties, if you have 2 Tabs: General and Advanced you need to enable wireless zero config in Windows itself,
To do this you go into control panel -> Administrative tools -> Services scroll to the bottom of the list double click Wireless Zero Configuration and make sure startup type is Automatic and then click start, click ok and go back to network connections, you should now have 3 Tabs, General, Wireless Networks and Advanced.
From here click Wireless Networks and make sure Allow windows to configure my wireless network settings is ticked and look in prefered networks remove ALL existing connections and click OK,
Now click the 1 button your Livebox and then double click Wireless Network Connection, and Livebox (or Wanadoo) should Be Broadband double click it and put the WEP key in (the 26 digit long code on the bottom of your Livebox) with no spaces all caps, and you should connect without any problem.
