Somebody help me please!!
I have recently installed an Orange Livebox. The initial connection via an ethernet cable went fine, no problems. At the same time Orange had kindly sent me a Speedtouch 121g wireless dongle (after they accidentally cancelled my account during a house move!) I went through the motions of installing it with their software.
Initially it didn't even seem to recognise that the thing was even plugged in. I am not a complete fool when it comes to computers so after much fiddling it now recognises that the dongle is connected. Running the programme that shows available connections it can even see my livebox wirelessly. Following thir own help menus "press apply changes etc etc" in the security screen, nothing happens, it simply will not connect. I have cut and paste the WEP key in from the Livebox configuration screen, to no avail, it sees the Livebox with excellent reception but will not connect. I ahve tried disabling my antivirus and firewall software (Zone Alarm) but still it will not connect.
I therefore unistalled the software and just installed the software through Windows (XP SP2), getting the driver off the CD. Sometimes now after a restart it looks like it is all going to work fine. It picks up the Livebox and MSN starts to connect. Then after about a minute it disconnects. If you search for a network, it finds my livebox but says it needs a WPA / WEP key. I type this in and nothing changes - it simply refuses to connect. I have now tried disabling the security settings through the livebox configuration page, but still no joy.
However, I have been able to connect a WiFi enabled phone to the livbox with no problems. My gut feeling is that is either a problem with the dongle or security settings +/- firewall/antivirus issues.
Would be grateful if anyone has any useful tips as I have wasted hours so far trying to solve this.
Okay did you put the livebox in panning mode by pressing button 1 maybe that will connect it . If not click on the wireless icon on the desktop when the box come up click on site survey double click on the livebox name make sure that the box says WPA-PSK then click on apply change. If that does not weork make sure your livebox can recieve a wireless connection using the wired connection in the search bar type in 192.168.1.1 password admin admin Security wireless connection and make sure that there is a tick in the Enable Wireless LAN box or you can also check this out to. http://help.orange.co.uk/docum...lue=kb7905
Thanks for the quick response. The livebox was in pairing mode - no joy. When carrying out a site survey my Livebox did appear with WPA-PSK already on. Clicking apply changes did nothing. Enable wireless LAN was also on, and as I mentioned a friend with a wireless enabled phone connected instantly.
Thanks for the link to thie help page from Orange - must have been one of the few pages that I did not find but does not seem to add to what I have done.
I think there is something wrong with the dongle itself as I have just borrwoed a Linksys network adaptor from a friend - works first time with my computer.
1. I did get the icon to say that the dongle was installed correctly. On occasion it would connect to the Livebox (seemed to be after restarting the computer), then disconnect after about 30 seconds.
2. I did, sometimes it helped, sometimes not, which didn't really make any sense to me.
3. Initially it did go in to the docking ball but realsied this may be a problem so put it directly in to a USB port. Didn't help so uninstalled the software, tried again but no difference.
4. In short, about 2 feet when trying to set it up.
5. Again, in short no, but how come the Linksys receiver worked so easily.
6. Tried about half of them but then got fed up as it didn't seem to change anything, plus see answer 5.
It's all a bit of a mystery!!
I will try your suggestions but tempted to just buy a different (Linksys) receiver and have done with it.
Sorry I have taken so long to reply It has been a busy day for me. Stick with the dongle that you have if the speedtouch one does not work. I do not trust some of the Orange stuff there has been posts on here about people sending back their livebox as the are faulty. If you do decide to try the speedtouch again let me know how you get on.
