Hi, I've been having lots of frustrations with the Wandaoo/Orange customer service! I would love someone to give me some clarification about upgrading to the 8MB service.
I joined Wanadoo in May 2005, signing up to the 8MB service. I had been on 1MB with BT and this was the speed that I was transferred on.
Since then I have been waiting, without success, to be upgraded to 8MB. I live in Leeds and my exchange is Rawdon which as I understand has the potential for 8MB.
The reasons given so far have been varied and include:
- it will take 7-10 days and then will happen (this was told to me many times)
- it needs BT to agree to unbundle your line and then it will happen (the manager was unable to give me ANY date -however vague - as to when this might happen)
- the capacity has been reached on my exchange in terms of unbundled lines, therefore it will not be possible
Are any of these reasons in any way correct? Is it possible for me to have an 8MB (or close to) service where I live? I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me!!

Maybe there was supposed to be the LLU migration going through but something didn't go through right.

Thats all done back end, it's just a process of waiting for when it gets unbundled if they're able to.

Very possible, as I've seen this many times with BT being overstretched for broadband demand in some areas.

You probably won't be able to get 8 meg on your line. 6.5 is likely the limit if your line only just fell short of supporting 2 meg but it's more likely going to be less, hard to guess exactly what at this stage.
Sounds like you missed out on the Orange LLU 8 meg but it's possible you may be upgraded at a later point. You could try and see about upgrading to ADSL Max though the member centre, if the option's there today. As you're on 1 meg I don't believe you'll be upgraded by Orange anytime soon as they're doing the 2 meg lines first.

Go to DSLZone UK fill in the required fields and see what it says if you can get 8Mb then change your provider (if your out of contract) seems Orange tell everyone the same including me (when i was stupid enough to give them my money for nothing) and i can see my exchange from my window its opposite got 2Mb with Orange changed ISP and now average 6.7Mb on IPStream Max Orange talk crap im afraid.

That's confirmed my opinions about Customer Service, that they haven't got a clue!
One of the other things that I forgot to mention before was that I was told that my line could not support more than 1MB but the diagnostic suggests 5MB and above.
When Customer Service give 5 different reasons at different points, its very hard to know what the right reason actually is. I think I will write to Orange as well as to the ISP watchdog. Is this the best way to take this forwards?

Heh on that link it says my exchange supports upti 8mb, the distance is 1.6kmh from it and i have 0 modem issues yet i can only get 3mb line speed. Then again i have speedtouch 330 modem so maybe that's causing it, boots you'll probably be stuck on slow speed like me yet pay full monthly overcharged fee.
